Muffler
My muffler has a hole in it and needs to be replaced. I have never done exhaust work but it doesnt look too bad except for rust. Anyone have any tips on this kind of work?
Also, where can I find a cheap muffler for a 87 4Runner 4cyl?

yuo can easily get a nonvehicle specific muffler if you know someone at a body shop... they are always replacing mufflers... i work at a wheel works and the body shop right next to us has at least one muffler just laying out in our parking lot

sounds real big, i came to the conclusion that it was 1.75" so I was wondering if this Magnaflow would fit?

What kind of sound do you want out of it? I put a cherry bomb and 2 1/4 piping on my 22r (carbureted) and I have received alot of compliments on the sound. Everyone thinks its a V6.

Oh and I believe stock the exhaust is 1 7/8" or some wierd measurement like that.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I have a downturn right after the muffler, so its aimed at the ground, this makes it louder I believe.

I dont really care too much about the sound, but I dont want it too loud. I just kinda need to replace mine and want to use pretty much all origional tubing. I would go performance mainly for hp not sound.
Why can't I find a 1 7/8" muffler? What should I use?
If anyone could find me a cheap muffler that would work it would be greatly appreciated (Not the OE one from those sites for $105)

check out the magnaflows and flowmaster 50 series....nice low tone that's not crazy. It should also increase the hp a little....while doing this you should look at getting a high flow cat and doing the 2.25 pipe. It'll increase your hp. Think of it this way....more exhaust out means more air in for combustion

When it came time to do mine the muffler was $150 at the dealership. The tailpipe is part of it, which apparently accounts for the cost. I bought a generic turbo style muffler for $19.99 at the local auto parts store and cut the tailpipe and installed it with clamps, used the under-the-clamp generic hanger. (Later I did the same thing on the wife's Audi - $25 instead of $300.)

I beg to differ on that First off from the header back I am running 2.25 into a high flow cat with a 2 chamber flowmaster and a straight pipe dumped under the bed of my 4runner (spare tire area) The nevada emmissions limit is 220 at 3 different inspection points With new setup I scored between 8-17 in all three categories. There was a major difference in power and my gas milage. I get roughly 20- 24 mpg. Another thing always pay extra for galvanized tubing regardless of your climate.
