More power for my 00' 4runner

Hi all,

What are the most common upgrades for our 4Runners???
I have an 2000 SR5, V6, 5spd.
Do you guys mod the air intake?
downpipe and exhaust?
anything else??

Thanks,

maguirre

more power = TRD Supercharger + a URD Fuel Upgrade Kit.

The SC will be about $1500 used and right at $2000 new. the URD kit is $900 new and there are pretty much NONE on the used market.

URD is selling the S/C and upgrade as a kit right now for just over $2300.

Do a search for "Deckplate mod" and you'll see plenty of this very esy and cheap mod that generally will net 6-8whp.
Exhaust mod is more for sound than anything else but you do get a little more midrange with a slightly bigger catback.

The poor man's mods for more power would be the deckplate (DP) mod, the Intake Silencer Removal (ISR) mod and variations on the exhaust system. The DP and ISR mod's together might cost you about $50 depending on what materials you use and toghether probably add roughly 8-12 hp (at a guess).

If you have money to spend, by all means, SC!!!

I got a great difference with a new cold air intake ($44), New Magnaflow Muffler ($59+35 install). Probably a 8-15hp upgrade. Sounds great and feels like it performs much better.

I also replaced the stock sparkplug wires with new NGK TE66 Blue wires, $27+shipping and ordered new DENSO platinum plugs from URD. (They sent me Iridiums...which I have yet to install).

Cheap upgrades that seem to help.

I have a couple of Q's regarding the deckplate mod:
-Where do you get the ring that you attach to the intake housing after cutting the hole in it?
-Why do you remove the 15A fuse prior to doing the mod?

Just curious before I modify our soon to be 4runner.

Marine shops sell the deckplate and they usually cost about $10 and you pull the fuse I think to allow the computer to be reset and calibrate to the increased airflow.

I just did this all today on my runner. I have a 97 SR5, 5sp and it was well worth it.
I spent a total of ~ $12 for the deckplate and ISR mods. Not only does the 5v sound AWESOME but I definitely noticed a power increase as well as throttle response increase.

I got the 3 caps for the ISR, some $0.50 spray paint, (2) barb-mip fittings and some dremel bits all for about $10, then I had to buy 12" of vacuum line for the FPR to be hooked up to the new fittings in the intake and they cost me about $1.50. I didnt use a deckplate, I just cut a big opening in my stock airbox cuase I dont ever plan to go in water thats over 3ft deep anyway so why not.

These mods are WELL wirth the cost, and very noticable. For only $11.50 you can't beat this at all....

Dave you're being too modest...Everyone look at Dave's sig-- what do you see...??? He has no doubt the only 3.4L engine in the US or even any other country that I know of that puts out that kind of Horsepower & Speed... He is indeed the Speed and Hp Master...Da Maaaannnn...!!!! not to mention also one of my best buddies here on the forums...

Hey the Funny fog (Nitrous) does'nt count that's like cheating... and does'nt mention if he is 4WD-- has to be the same or similar set up...running straight unleaded fuel...

Oh,now there's rules.

I'm also not a big fan of NO2 either;it's just temporary horsepower.

12.9 is still crazy fast for a 4runner on the 1/4 mile!!!

What about Brian Trager's:

Sorry I should had been more specific... when I mention Dave has the most powerful 3.4L-- Only 3.4L Supercharged Engines running straight fuel and NO Nitrous or Turbo Chargers...Those are a whole different catergory...
