Missfire when engine is started hot

model 1999 Tacoma 4x4 3.4l v6 160k
Not really a offroad question but I figure someone on here might have some decent insight.
Been having trouble with my truck lately, it start and runs pretty good when cold maybe a slight intermittent miss but nothing super obvious. If I drive it for a while and get it up operating temp then shut it down. When I restart it before it cools all the way off. It has a bad consistent miss for the next 15 minutes or so.
I hooked my scanner up to it and it's throw a po303 which is a miss on cyl 3.
I did the easy and obvious, new plugs, wires, and a coil pack on cyl 3 with no luck. Cleaned the MAF

I guessing its a fuel injector issue and plan on changing that out next but want to get some insight before I started down that road. Anybody else had this problem? I 've been searching and seen other people have similar problems and have it turn out to be a blown head gasket but that was usually a consistent not intermittent miss.

The thing that confuses me is it doesn't happen all the time when the engine is hot only when you restart it after its been warmed up, and doesn't happen at all if the engine is cold. Anyways any help would be appreciated. If I missed any forum rules ect let me know and I'll correct it

Compression test and try swapping a different injector and coil pack in that hole and see what happens. Then youll know if it consistant issue with the #3 cylinder or another cylinder.

Why dont you swap the injector first before you spend more money. What year is your truck and how many miles?

Had this very same thing happen a year ago. But mine was p304. It was the fuel injector. When cold, the internal coil made contact but once it heated up, the coil would separate and the injector would fail. The truck bucked and stumbled. Before you damage the truck, toss a new injector in. Be thankful its on the passenger side. The drivers side requires the intake to be removed. FYI, you can buy a OEM- GB remanufactured injector for $29 at rockauo.com. Dont bother sending it out to be inspected. Its a non-repairable part of the injector. It will just be a waste of postage. Use it for your core deposit return.

Truck is a 1999 with 160k on it.

DRCOFFEE would your truck miss once it got up to operating temp or would it only miss when you restarted it after it was at operating temp? I'm confused as to why mine wouldn't miss all the time when it was at operating temp if if was a heat soak issue.
Also any idea which one is the correct one for my truck
Rock auto
AUTOLINE Part # 162017 Reman
GB REMANUFACTURING Part # 84212251 Remanufactured Multi Port Injector

Are they both multi port and just different brands?

As it was explained to me by Witchhunter, the heat causes the internal coil to fail once it heats up. I don't know if it was from heat generated by the injector or heat soak from the engine but mine would run fine until I got down the road a mile or two and then the CEL would come on and sputter. It was so bad I had to just idle the truck home the last time it happened. I would use GB reman because you know its an OEM injector which will match the other 5. What I did was order 3 GB injectors and do the whole left side. It was such a PITA that I didn't want to deal with #2 or #6 failing and have to do it all again.

When I had a similar issue a few months ago, I just replaced all of mine with GB Remans. It was cheaper to get 6 new GB Remans than it was to get one new OEM injector. So far, so good. I can't complain about the GBs and for the price, there's really no better option.

I ended up getting a GB reman from ebay, roughly the same price as rockauto and it solved my problem.
The injector that I pulled was withing spec for resistance so I'm not sure if this one was just dropping out of spec when hot or somehow seizing up.

I haven't had much time to check out what failed on the old injector but if i find out anything new I'll post up. The swap took me about 3 hours total since I only had to pull the upper intake to get to the number 3 injector. However I really with I would have just swapped them all out and would probably do that if i had to do it again.
