Mass Air Flow Sensor Fail

I have a 98 4Runner limited V6 with TRD supercharger, AEM cold air induction with Super AFC air flow converter and TRD cat back exhaust. If I get on the throttle hard, the engine looses power for a split second and the check engine light comes on. The truck runs fine after this happens and after the engine cools down the check engine light goes off. Have had the code checked when the check engine light is on and it comes up with mass air flow sensor faulting. My question is why does it only trip when I get on the throttle? Has anyone had this or similar problem happen to them?

I can only guess it has to do with your intake system the sensor is sending data to the ECM that is out of normal operating range so it trips the MIL

I would think with such a strange intake your MAF would need to be special for that application being able to be calibrated for the added air flow.

How you can have a vehicle like this and not your own scanner is interesting

Damn.....i have to clean the sensors in my maf every three months. Trips a code when the leading edge of the sensor gets dirty. That or a bug gets by the airfilter and lands on the sensor. Check it out.

From what I have researched, the Super AFC air flow converter is a device that helps regulate what the air and fuel ratio is. I assume the guy that installed it did that so he didn't have to upgrade the fuel system. Having a lot of problems with this truck. Wish I would not have bought someone else's project. I'm not having much problem with the MAF sensor now. Currently I'm getting a #6 cylinder misfire and air/fuel mixture lean bank 1. I've replaced all spark plugs and wires and the coil pack for cylinder 6. I've read that it could be a bad injector. Truck idles a little rough at times and other times it feels like it's not running on all 6 cylinders. Also check engine light comes on at times and then doesn't at other times. Been rather frustrating.
