Manual Transmission Mount

The mount bolts to the t-case, and to the crossmember. But it also has a white plastic thing, with a metal threaded insert, sticking out the bottom. The white plastic thing fits into a hole in the crossmember. The bolt going into it is large. 22mm head.

What’s it for? How tight should it be? I noticed mine had completely worked itself out, and the plastic piece was just laying inside the crossmember. Luckily it hadn’t fallen out. I don’t know exactly what it does or how tight the 22mm bolt should be.

I was thinking that too. But then thought it’s a pretty elaborate centering mechanism...with a giant bolt. So I’m not convinced.

I think it's a failsafe - in case the rubber on the mount fails/rips. I replaced mine maybe a year and a half ago or so, I think the rubber had mostly failed. But very little in terms of symptoms because that kept eveything pretty much in line. It was just sagged a bit and that was kicking it out of low range sometimes while driving (in conjunction with a 1" body lift).

Alright. Well then I'll just figure I tightened it down enough and call it good. Thanks. The more I crank it, it starts to compress the rubber insulators. Which may or may not be a good thing within reason...not sure.

My truck has felt a little unstable the last few days...can't trace the cause. Only reason I noticed the piece had come loose is because I was laying under my truck just looking for loose bolts, rub marks etc.
