Major Clutch Problems...

Yesterday I was driving around town, and noticed my clutch was losing pressure, I continued to drive and then finally i completely lost pressure, with the clutch fully pressed, I couldn't even get my 4runner into gear. I am not very mechanical with my new (well used) 4runner. however I noticed that a tank of fluid was compeltely empty...if you are looking at the engine, it would be in the back right corner of the engine (22RE). Thanks guys, any help would be appreciated!

Either your clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder needs to be replaced/rebuilt and the system bled of air. Look for brake fluid leak either inside of cab firewall above clutch pedal or outside below center of vehicle where engine and trans meet.

If brake fluid inside the cab its the clutch master cylinder that needs work, outside its the clutch slave cylinder. Either way after repair/replacement the system will need to be filled with a good brake fluid and air bled out. HTH

Thumbs up Clutch Issue

This happened earlier today 6/26/11 at about 7 pm.
Its about 12:05 C.S.T now I was at the grocery store earlier today. When I pulled in I notice my clutch felt really loose. I went into the store shopped and came out. When I got in my 83 Toyota Pick up. The clutch was so loose no pressure at all. It went all the way to the floor. I could not shift into any gear. I knew it was something simple because this was so sudden. Needless to say I didn't have a clue. My lady and I grab the groceries and started walking. We were right up the street from our apartment. I came in and type "clutch loss pressure in 83 Toyota Pick Up". It led me to this forum. The answer was fluid. Brake fluid. I walked back added the fluid pump the clutch it tighten 20 minutes later I'm back home. I still need to bleed the line and make sure no air is in the line. But this forum may have save me a ton of money and I will fix it myself. I love this truck. It probably will run forever.
