I was doing some surfing this morning and came across All Pro's Tcase page. They make an adapter to put the 4cyl. transfer case on the V6. My understanding is that you can't regear the V6 tcase like you can in the 4cyl model.

Has anyone done this swap? How about dual tcases? I'm wondering if I went with one 4cyl model, how much would I need to hack up my interior (would the stock V6 lever work with the plastic shroud, or would I need a different setup with a flexible boot?)

What should I expect to pay for a 4cyl tcase from the salvage yard?

If you have a V-6 and an auto, the t-case and trasmission and integrated and cannot be separated in order to swap out the t-case.

There is a write-up on ODW about swapping the tranny for a 3rd Gen auto, then swapping the t-case for gear driven one and adding an adaptor for the second case.

 

chebby this is new member toyota parts dude i have a coupleof the 81-83 toyota truck 5 speed transfer cases. they are the ones advance adapters recomends for using as the doner case when you are doing a dual transfer case setup. i'll sell for $100 + shipping. they also use the case from a 84-88 22re w56 transmission. they say the 4cyl. toyota cases are stronger than the model 20 transfer case in 77 and older broncos

 

Hi. I'm reading but I haven't done much research on V6s. I know you can't make them lower because they are chain driven where the 4 cyls are gears. Marlin has something that can work. I just don't know any specifics.

When I do this I will go through Inchworm. They are much cheaper then Marlin.

Junkyard 4 cyl cases are $90-$150 depending on if you pull it and who you deal with.

OK - been doing more research. Can I keep my Auto tranny if I go to dual cases? I had read that the auto tranny is longer than the manual - is this true?

On the shift levers, if I go to dual tcases will I have my existing one plus two levers, or will I scrap the existing one. Will I lose 4Hi with this setup?

 

BTW, inchworm now has a 5.1:1 gear set available.

 

Holy Smokes! That's low. I put Advanced Adapters 4:1 in mine. It took a fair bit of grinding to get the gears to clear the brackets on the shift rails. I wonder if you'd really have to grind out more room for those 5.11's. It'd be a great ratio though.

I've found lower low-range to be a really great mod. Combined with the rear Lock-Right, the capability of the truck has skyrocketed. Now it's just my squirrelly stomach that stops me instead of the truck.
