Locker or limited slip. That is the question.
Im planning on a putting either an auto locker or a limited slip in my rear diff and dont realy know where to start
as far as what works well and can still be used in a daily driver. Id like to go ARB but they are above my price range
.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Detroit EZ-Locker only costs about $200 and is pretty easy to install if you have some technical ability, and a way to check backlash.

I'd go with a TruTrac up front and a Toyota electric locker in the rear. The banging of a mechanical locker as well as the odd handling when streets are slick are big negatives to me. Of course, if ya got the bucks, you can go with ARB at both ends.

I dont got the bucks for an ARB and i dont realy think i wanna mess around with trying to find a factory e-locker. So what are my best options for a rear locker or limited slip?
Thanks,
Andy

Depends on what you want to do with it. If it's really 95% street driven you might not want to live with a locker. And if you use 4wd on the street in the winter you really won't like anything up front but open diffs, which is why front ARBS are so nice. A truetrac in the rear, for instance, is durable, smooth, and quiet, yet really hooks up. Not that expensive either. Do some research, don't just wait for folks here to tell you how to spend your money... You might start here, there's good info well presented: http://www.reiderracing.com/rtech_diffs.htm

I asked a similar question awhile back when trying to decide whether or not to get an automatic locker (Detroit EZ). The general consenus was that they are worth the drawbacks (i.e. the noises and adapting your driving skills). I haven't installed mine yet, so I can't give my full opinion.
I dont know if you have a manual or not but I've heard that auto-lockers are auto-tranny friendly.
Check out this site for a little more info.

Locker, get it and you'll know why. If you wheel a lot anyway, if it's totally street driven , which I'm assuming it's not, then get the limited slip. I debated this same thing about a year ago-I ended up with a Toyota e-locker and I do not regret it. Even with a full time rear locker, street abilities won't be affected that much once you get used to it.
