Anyone have experience replacing their own LCA bushings on 3rd gen 4runners? After a search there is plenty of info on this for 1st and 2nd gens, but not much for ours. Can these even be pressed out with a vise?

do you mean the front lower control arm or the rear because i did my fronts and i didnt need a press or vise at all.

 

Hmm...1st or 2nd gen is NOT a 3rd gen, our bushings are completely different, and there is no info on this site for 3rd gens. So dont tell me to search when I already have

I looked at his bushing replacement thread, but it wont work for 3rd gens because our bushings dont have the little shoulder to press on to pop them out. And I would really like to avoid burning them out if possible.
I gotta do both, they are both pretty much destroyed. That is good news. Did they just fall out for you?

 

ALLDATAdiy.com shows them being pressed out and also has a few SSTs to do the job.

 

After digging a little deeper, Looks like replacing the bushings is cheaper in the long run, but a PITA. I could order new LCA complete with bushings and ball joints for $160 each side, but thats alot of dough. I'm gonna have to sleep on it

 

stockwell - look into getting camburg UCA's. They'll convert you to a uniball and also give you an 1" more of travel.

 

Just got some! so now I just gotta replace all the lower parts of the suspension

 

for the front lower control arms we just melted out the old bushing with a torch and the ecentrics broke when we tried to take it out so we got new ones, and the new bushings slip right in to place with a screw driver, hammer, and grease.

 

any sign of the new ones wearing out early or making weird noises?

 

not yet and there poly too, the key to no noise is lots of grease. and we wire wheeled my lca after we burned the old bushing out to get rid of all the rust and rubber junk

 

Good to know. So you didnt do your rear bushings?

 

i did the whole entire front control arm bushings. when u said rear i thought you ment the rear suspension lower control arms as i havent had to do those yet.

Where did you guys get your poly bushing for the front LCA's. I have looked, but I havn't found them anywhere.

Is there a reason it doesn't list 99-00 and 01-02 4runners? Are you using the tacoma parts? They don't show any LCA bushings for the 3rd gen 4runners.

 

Tacoma LCA's are the same.
