Land Cruiser wheels 1st mod

I picked up a 98 limited two weeks ago and already can't leave well enough alone. Just got a set of landcruiser wheels to put on. They are in very good shape but I going to paint them. Not sure black or gunmetal. What do you guys think.

Glad to be aboard. I have been lurking for awhile.

Thanks! It will be the first of many mods to come. Front winch bumper, sliders, and rear bumper to come. Lift is next though. Any good suggestions on a lift?

I cant tell what color yours is but I like it. Not diggin the CHROME brush guard haha, too flashy for me. Go with OME coils/shocks you wont be disappointed. 883's (medium coils) if you plan to have a winch and bumper up front and 891's (medium) for the rear if you carry a lot of gear. Plenty of guys run the full OME shocks/coils and there are lots of different types of OME coils depending on how much wight you haul around daily. There are quite a few out there that run different setups as well like tundra coils and the LC80s along with OME coils. The search button is your best friend, plan to use it A LOT around here. Welcome to YotaTech!

Your second and third mods should be to remove the running boards and brush guard.

Nice 4Runner by the way, I love that color!

My buddy has a 97 limited in that color. It's like a metallic root beer brown. It looks really good shined up. Is that a purebred boxer in the 2nd pic? I have a 4 year old male boxer, coolest dogs. Welcome, and I am sure you'll find tons of mods on here that you will want to do.

Oh yeah, I would just polish the rims, unless you are gonna paint the bumpers, too. If you paint the bumpers, paint the rims to match. Gun metal would look good on those rims, I wonder how it would look if you painted the fender flares to match as well?

Ha Ha ! yeah thanks guys for the info. Yes the chrome bling bling grill guard is for sale if anyones interested. The front and rear bumpers are coming off and black or color matched to the bottom color offroad bumpers are going on. Maybe a shockworks front and a CBI rear. Also the running boards are making room for sliders. It has just been so cold lately just havent had time. Trust me they are coming off. All in time.

Thanks for the heads up on the suspension. I can't wait to lift it a little and hit the trails in the Black Hills this summer!

Yes shes a purebred. She rules the house. haha. And shes always good for a laugh. Very good dog.

Glad to be here thanks again everyone.

I have used Duplicolor Rim paint in the metallic Charcoal with good results as well. Just to give you another option.

What store did you guys find the rim or wheel paint? Advanced auto had only silver. I looked that metallic charcoal up and that is almost a perfect match with the lower color of my runner. Very cool Thanks!

I can get it at any Schucks/ O'Reilly's, Autozone, etc. Just call around, someone will have it. And if you get the clearcoat, VERY, VERY light coats. If you put it on too thick it turns milky instead of clear and you have to start over. Don't ask how i know

I was going to post up a pic of my front bumper and grill, so you could see what the duplicolor ended up like, but I can't find a decent pic. Sorry.

Thanks for the info. I called ABS and they had the charcoal metallic and they told me the same thing about the clear. Sux that you had to find out the hard way. Thats usually how I find out. I'm going to scuff the rims up and get em ready to paint on Sat. Hopefully they turn out. I held up the can lid and it almost matches perfectly to the bottom half color.

Thanks again for all the help.

Sweet. Take pics. We all love pics!! And don't skimp on the prep work. It sucks the most but pays off big in the end.

fwiw

I got the Rustoleum at Lowe's...also got some primer from them

My process was to use a brass wire brush to rough up the surface, then wipe with denatured alcohol, then prime 2 coats, then paint 2 coats...

I love that color 4runner. I've seen a few around on the road and it looks great in person. X 436578990020 on removing the brush guard, and running boards. Nice find on the LC wheels too, I wish I could find some cheap.

BTW beware of this site, I've been on here not even three full months and sunk over $5,000 into my truck since. It's a dangerous place.

I heard that on beware of this site. For some reason my future mod list is more than the savings account says I can do. I have until summer before I need all the bumpers ready so that will help a little.

Prep is no fun I know. I have done some painting on my street bike. Its so worth it in the long run. I will get some pictures up when I get the paint finished this weekend. The tires are on a two week back order so I have a little curing time.

I did my rims in Dupicolor Graphite. Turned out awesome, I recommend the color. Then again, you're going to have like 3 different shades of grey going on, so be weary of that.
