My 95 4runner v6, auto, starts to 'kick' or slip at highway speeds. It does it sporadicaly. Sometimes only a little bit and others it will do it for a few seconds and then stop. I use fuel system cleaner every 3,000 miles and the fuel filter was changed at 83,000 and it is now at 88,000. It only does it when in lock-up. It also seems to sluggish in 3rd. Is this injectors?

Are you talking about the transmission? I know there's no way you are breaking the tires loose with the 3.0 at highway speeds..

I'm confused do you mean with the ECT engaged maybe? Please provide more details... or did I totally miss something.. been known to do that from time to time....

 

i think it is the tranny, but i am not totally sure. The rpm's stay at a constant level.

yes only in lock up, just normal 60-80 mph cruising on the interstate/highway.


the fluid in the diffs and tranny was changed at 77,000 miles.

 

could be misfire on the injectors. This happened to me and my 4runner felt very jerky and it was only at highway speeds as well. You just might need a tune up.

Sounds like a tad bit of fuel starvation... Will it do it at the same rpm when you're not in O/D? Just my 2 cents from a pinched fuel line problem recently (after the fuel gauge TSB work was performed...).

 

i don'y know, i will have to check. What is the cost to get fuel injectors cleaned, can i do it myself? Also, will itonly help it if i run 89-93 in it? I do get worse gas milage with the higher grade fuels. Very strange. Thanks for the help

 

Has it been doing it on the current tank of fuel or have you filled-up numerous times with the same symptom? Maybe you have some water in the tank...

 

it has been doing it. i thought it was 'bad gas', but i have filled up several times, on differnet octanes, and still the same thing. I do not drive on the highway alot, but when i do it does the dance. Do we think it is the injectors?

I've heard some talk about gas starvation or blockage you might think its a injector problem, could it be electrical... like the electrical cut out on some rental trucks or timming way adv. and your getting into trouble at high rpm???

 

It is hard to tell from your description, but it maybe the normal operation of the torque converter clutch locking and unlocking.

From like 70-80 it pretty much stays at 3,000 rpm's. If the torque converter was locking and unlocking, wouldn't the rpm's change? I was coming home today and the rpms were low(1,500-2,000) and it was starting to kick, a little, not as much as as on the interstate.

I just noticed your signature and it says you have Jacob plug wires. Loose those things fast and get OEM wires.

a kick or a slip. not really a shake but it will move you in your seat. it is more front to back and than side to side.


Could it possibly be a pinch in the fuel like or just a clog?
