Post Dyno my '99

I found a place locally that will charge me $50 for 3 pulls and $100 for any adjustments. Is that a good price?..I am pretty anxious to get my truck dyno'd with all the mods I have on it currently (2nd Gen S/C, TRD Exhaust, Deckplate w/ Amsoil, Free FMU). It would be a good baseline before I upgrade the injectors and convert to Iridium plugs (1-step colder).

Three runs on the Dyno after intitial setup. The runs are from idle to redline at full throttle, while shifting thru the gears, usually 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

You get a graph of each run. Most of the time, it is used for tuning purposes. Sometimes, you are making the runs to prove/disprove something or to see what the effects of a certain mod are. Rear-Wheel HP and Torque are what are measured.

Hope this helps.
Dr. Z

PS Dukestr, that seems like it's pretty fair.

It is in Orangevale, CA (within the Sacramento County). I will have it done next week and post the results late that day.
After talking again to the manager of the shop, he said it is okay to make adjustments in between runs and he will give me an extra run free (since he has not Dyno'd an SUV with a blower, makes him curious too). What do you fellas suggest I do:
*Deckplate In, ECT Off
*Deckplate Out, ECT Off
*Deckplate In, ECT On
*Deckplate Out, ECT Off

...are these combinations worthwhile trying or it does it even make sense trying these combos?

I think you meant,
*Deckplate In, ECT Off
*Deckplate Out, ECT Off
*Deckplate In, ECT On
*Deckplate Out, ECT On

Yeah that seems reasonable. I would be curious to see the results with the ECT on and off because so many dyno tests have given difference results with the ECT.

Well, not owning an Automatic truck, I can't speak from close personal experience with the ECT. But I have driven older (2nd Gen) Automatic 4Runners (and other cars) with a "Performance" setting on the Tranny and I ALWAYS left the performance switch "On". So, with that said, I'd say yeah, test it with those configs.

It's be cool to see what the TRD Low Temp Thermo could do for you. But that'd be kind time consuming and the Dyno guy might not be willing to go for that. You'd also have to buy one first...

It is my belief that under WOT ECT really has no further effect. Only under partial throttle does ECT increase the rpm range of the shift. Something to consider/further research before you do all your runs based around ECT on/off.

Just wanted to bump up this thread because I just had my 4Runner dyno'd this morning and have interesting results ( I wanted to get a baseline before I do my fuel delivery mods). I am in the process of updating my website with all the data (and some pics) that I have gathered. But before I do that I just wanted to clarify this with Jay or any other that might have an answer to this question..."is it true that Toyota's base rear wheel horse power for the 3.4L V6 is 140HP @ 4000 RPMs, with max torque of 210 ft./lbs. @ 2000 RPMs?
Just needed to clarify this since I am also adding a brief explaination on my site regarding "flywheel horsepower" (which is usually written on ads to balloon actual gains) and "rear wheel horsepower".

Noel,
I promise I will not keep you waiting long, I just want my facts to be accurate in terms of the "true rear wheel HP" on a 3.4 V6, that's why I wanted feedback on this. My website will have all the graphs I have just scanned in. But here is a little teaser, this my current setup:
2nd gen s/c with no fuel mods, deckplate w/ amsoil, TRD exhaust, 1-step colder plugs, Hayden Tranny cooler, 275/70/16 Bridgestone H/L tires

It seems having the deckplate IN or OUT does not make a whole lot of difference:
Deckplate IN, ECT ON = 194.5HP (rear wheel) @5000RPM
Deckplate OUT, ECT ON = 194.9HP (rear wheel) @5000RPM

So I'll probably keep the plate in until I have my injectors, fuel pump upgraded next month (even though I already have all the parts with me including SAFC

I promise I will have my website updated with all the data within the week

Dukestr,

I'm also interested, and was just about to post a thread on the difference between RWHP and Factory Stated HP. I would love to know those numbers, and I'm sure Gadget, Jay, or Dr. Z would know. What's the URL to your website?

Dukestr,

One more question: How did you find a shop that had a Dyno? What did you look up in the phone book as a start? What type of shops may have something like that?

I did a search for DynoJet....here is a link where you can do a search in your area for places where the DynoJet equipment is available.

Great! I found a pace right here in Knoxville. Fantastic! I think I'm going to do a base run with just my FIPK kit, which I plan to take off anyway. Thanks a ton for the info!

I always thought the deckplate (hole) becomes fuctional when the truck is moving and helps more air get in? Maybe, as you said, not much difference....sounds like you're building up a quick truck. Good luck and have fun.

Yeah, I would think the same thing. The faster you are going the more air that could enter the deckplate hole, which in turn would benefit HP even more, right?
