keyless beep

hey, I tried searching but didnt get very good results ... soooo... I am wondering if there is anyway I can get my 1997 limited 4runner to beep when I lock it with the keyless remote. Right now, all it does is flash the lights and its hard to tell during the day if it locks or not when I am walking away from it. Gracias!

My alarm manual that came with the 4runner has the sequence of turning the key in the ignition with engine not running (all dash lights on) and pressing in and out the valet switch 3 times and then turning the ignition off again. then it will beep. to turn off the beep, I do the sequence again. check your alarm manual if you have it.

mellamo,

assuming you have an rs3000, go to my page here at http://www.4runners.org/articles/rs3000

download the user's manual and you shall find your answer, young grasshoppa.

same here, but mine beeps the horn lightly. since I got the freeway blasters it would be pretty annoying. I wonder why I don't have the RS3000.

sometimes the button on my key gets stuck and wears the battery down, then I gotta go throught the key turn/valet switch sequence to disarm the "starter disabled" mode just to start the thing after manually opening it with the key. in a crowded parking lot or outside a restaurant window or even in your own driveway, everybody stares.

can you snap a pic of the valet button and the black box under the drivers dash? I think you might have the same one I have. if so I can give you detailed instructions because I have the manual for it. look in this pic, if your button look like mine ( the round red button by the dimmer switch) then you probably have the same one I do. let me know.

keisur- I went and looked, and I dont have a security light anywhere, so I am guessing I dont have an alarm system. Maybe I can't make mine beep?

You can wire in a module that will beep into the parking light circuit. (the wire that flashes you lights - isolate it with a diode or it will go off all the time...)

I have one that I'll be using at some point. I'll post a pic of it later. I can't remember who made it or where it came from.

You can probably strip one off of a Lexus at a salvage yard. Not sure what theirs looks like though.

what does your remote look like? i don't think 97s had it, but do you have the keyless entry remote w/ a lock, unlock, and open window button? i know on mine the volume of the chirp can be adjustedby using the keyless entry remote. i can hold the unlock button for ~3 seconds and get a double chirp. while still holding the unlock button, pressing lock increases the volume and window down decreases it.

my remote is part of the key. I don't think the separate fobs came out until '99 or so. at least I think. it's got lock, unlock and a green button that will turn the headlights on and if either the lock or the green button is held down it turns into the panic button.

My remote has two buttons like the RS3000. The top locks and unlocks, and the bottom is for programming into another toyota.

This does not work on my '02. I tried many button combos, and nothing happens.
