Key question

When I got the truck on Saturday, the dealer(not a Toyota dealer), gave me two keys for the truck. He said one is for the ignition and for the front door locks and glove box, the other was only for the hatch lock/window. That seems weird, no master key.

Also, wen I look at the sticker inside the drivers front door, which states the date of manufacture, it also states the tire pressure for 15 inch tires, not the 16's that are on it. Does anyone else have this, I thought the wheels were stock, as part of "package number 4".

Any insight appreciated.

My 97 also shows the 15" wheel package. I belive the 16's are port, or dealer installed. This leaves me at ends with the gearing/brakes.

the stickers show what the vehicle was intended for STANDARD when the vehicle was made, not what options it possibly has.....

the gear information is most likely correct

I think it is odd that you have a different key for the rear hatch. You posted in another thread
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/more-nubie-questions-dazed-confused-38271/
that when you open the rear it blows a fuse. Wondering if the lift gate was damaged/replaced or badly repaired. FWIW my 97 uses one key for everything.

I think you're on to something Brian,

The dealer said he thought the tailgate was replaced, so now my new question is, any way getting the back lock to use the same key as all the other locks?

As far as the fuse stuff, the dealer is waiting for the electrical control module for the tailgate to come in, he hopes that should fix the electrical prolems.

there are two possibilities; 1) try and have the existing cylinder rekeyed to match the rest of the truck and 2) replace all cylinders, keyed alike. option 2 is very expensive and time consuming. two keys isnt really that much of a thing to deal with, use the key with the black rubber as the main key and the plain steel one for the gate. i did that with my old 86 runner for years. my .02 worth.
