key fob program worked and now not working

2000 4 runner ltd. I bought 2 key fob remotes online. I was able to program the key fobs and seemed to work right after the programming. I used it again and worked. After running an errand it did not work. ANy thoughts why it did not keep the programming?

Did they come with batteries? I have found that NEW batteries are a must when ordering stuff online, the ones they send with online stuff are junk or just dead from sitting on a shelf for too long.

Also shopping online at eBay, or even amazon sometimes, has gotten FLOODED with cheap Chinese knockoffs. The quality is garbage on the inside, bargain basement components, etc. so unless you bought from a dealer or reputable vendor they could be crap.

+1

Also, some aren't exactly like the OEM ones...there are small differences inside. I really just wanted to swap the old chip into a new housing but it wouldn't fit so I had to use whole keyfob from ebay. One note to add, some reproduction keyfobs use a smaller battery so not only is it a crap battery but it's also smaller. I did manage to squeeze in a larger battery into the aftermarket one, same diameter and voltage just a little thicker but it worked. Swap in a Duracell and go through the PITA programming again and you'll be fine.
