Key CB and engine dies?

I searched and found a thread from 2007....no real answer/solution though.

1996 4runner, TRD Supercharger with the brain in the glove box.

Cobra 40ch CB with a roof-mount magnetic antenna.

CB power is to the battery, ground is to same (-) as my KC lights.

Antenna coax (bought today) goes behind glove box, up door frame and to the roof.

CB is mounted under the stereo.

Works great until I key the Mic...then the engine dies. Hi speed, low speed, no speed.

Any ideas?

Try taking the coax cable away from the ECU.

ECU being the "brain" in the glove box?

I've had similar issues with other EMI emitting equipment (even not RF transmitters). Threw random codes, idled rough. The solution has been to run both the positive and negative wires directly to the battery.

DD, just tried that a few minutes after your post....no luck. Still dies. Going to re-route the coax now.....

Scuba gets the cookie for the win! Re-routed the coax to the drivers side and up to the roof....no more dead truck! Thanks guys for the input!

I think you're just lucky that you didn't completely kill the ECU.
