I have a 93 3.0 v6 3vz-e motor. I just cleaned out the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and when i started up the car (motor was not warmed up) it was idling at 1,600 or 1,700. When it got warm it was at 1000. Before this cleaning, it was idling at 800. So I adjusted the idle screw. However, when i press the gas pedal to rev the engine, the rpms drop down to about 800 which is normal, but when I slow the engine down (by engaging the clutch into 1st gear and pressing the break pedal at the same time) the engine speed does not return to 800, isntead it returns to like 600 or 650. What could be causing this?

In the mean time, I will try to clean out my throttle body again, maybe it will help. Any suggestions are welcome

First of all the engine (if kept tuned right) should never need an idle adjustment.....at least a stock engine anyway. You will now need to turn it back to where it was.

When you clean out the throttle body I would expect the idle to go up a bit and smooth out any stumbling. Make sure to clean it well with a toothbrush, don't leave any carbon in there. Also be sure to open the throttle plate when you are doing it ( if not already). Make sure that all the other typical tune up parts are also changed.....plugs, AF, cap, rotor, wires (only if older than 8yrs.....just my rule of thumb), fuel filter, etc...

I have even seen oil that needs changing cause it to idle funny.

It sounds like you need to relube it, so the valve opens and closes like normal.

Yep, Chris is right. You always need to lube it after cleaning. Even if that is not what is causing your problem. Lube the shaft bushings inside the throat and the external linkages and stuff to make sure it has free movement. It may not be returning all the way to the closed position consistantly.

3 in 1 oil works well.

I use somethng called C56. It is an all in one gun cleaner, lube and rust preventative in a spray can. I always have a can of that around. Nothing cleans an SMG or a throttle body better...

suppose i use "break free" gun cleaner. Won't the stuff damage the engine or other sensitive components if it get's past the throttle body? Also, if i were to add some of this stuff, where would i add it to? to where the little plate (throttle plate?) is attached to the throttle body? or where?

Don't use anything containing silicone. The silicone will destroy the oxy sensor.

Hi,
where would you apply the lube for the throttle body after cleaning it? pics please, I plan to clean my Throttle Body too but would like to lube it afterwards. Rookie here so any help in detail would be great. 3 in 1 oil will work? Inside of the throttle body? Would think that wouldn't be ok because of gum up. On the outside too? So my guess is anywhere where there is a rotating assembly? or am I way off base?

Also, a mechanic told me that as long as you are spraying the outside of the throttle body you can use carb clean on a FI engine as long as it's not on the inside, like for cleanning linkages and the carb cleanber usually leaves a lubricating type substance on the linkages.

Thoughts, help please.
