If you had 500 bucks...
I wanting to add a little power to my lifted 02 Dcab Taco. I've got the 3.4 in there and rolling on 33's. I've already done the ISR and the deckplate. What would you guys do next?? I'm trying to stay under 500 dollars.
I was thinking a new cat back system from Magna flow or Gibson. But then I was also thinking about maybe some headers. Would I be better off with some cheaper headers or a more expensive cat back system?? Which do you think would be the better option to give me some more power?
Any other good ideas on blowing 500 bucks?? I was wanting to save up for a camper top, but I think I'm going to hold off on that for right now.

pull out the heads put the gasked in front and see how much metal u see on the heads the mark it with permanet marker and grind it and do the same on the headers all post some pics if i can find them

If I had 500 bucks to spend on mine, I'd have some skids and sliders ASAP, or regear. But we may be heading in two different directions with our trucks...

the way i did is preaty good and all u need is a grinder and sand paper and this will give u alot of power we did this to a 1.6 liter honda and at the end it fealt like it 2.0 for an example the 1.6 has 145hp it can gain from 40 to 100 hp and it maters how much u remove but it has to be acording to the gasket

a 1.6L honda motor does not make 145hp stock, nor will it make another 40 to 100hp with just a port job.
as for adding power to the 3.4, supercharge it or save your money. if you really wanna blow $500 then get an exhaust. atleast it'll sound faster

See the following thread. On page 6 there is a dyno of a naturally aspirated 3.4L stock, with Thorley headers, and with headers and Jardine catback. The runs were done on the same day to eliminate discrepancy between dynos/weather/whatever.
It's gonna suck to pay $900+ for these after this deal is done.

cold air intake and exhaust. for a K/N cold air intake is like 250.00 at performanceproducts.com I just got a quote today from my local exhaust shop to replace my stock muffler with a flowmaster and the pipe from there back to the bumper with a nice stainless steel tip for a 190.00 so in theory better gas mileage and more power that is what I am doing to my 04 4runner with the 4.0 V6

Actually there is a 1.6 honda motor that makes about 160 hp. But I think what 4runner guy is talking about is port-matching the exhaust manifold ports to the same size as the exhaust ports on the cylinder head. That would only work IF the exhaust manifold port is actually smaller then that of the cylinder head port. But gains from 40-100hp are not very realistic from a simple port-match unless the hole your starting with is the size of a straw.
