i know what a b16 is. i said there is no 1.6 that makes 145hp stock. i didnt say there wasnt one that made more. the point was port matching doesnt get you 40 to 100hp on a 1.6

I can't really think of what kind of motor would even come anywhere near close to making 40 horsepower off of a simple port-match. I could imagine if you went in and actually took the time to rework the cylinder head(s), but not from just doing the exhaust manifolds.

Please don't mess with that motor. When I hear of do-it-yourself cylinder head modification, I cringe. Toyota designed a fantastic engine, and that particular engine doesn't like to be modified and the significant mods that really work aren't $500 mods.

Read the thread about "Mods you regret" before doing anything. It's a trail of tears.

If I had $500 and wanted to do something for my engine, I'd do a BG Induction Service along with a complete 30,000 mile service using high quality factory parts. (which you can do yourself).

'99 Limited, 214,000 miles and I still get 19 mpg.

Appreciate it guys...

Right now I'm leaning towards the cat back... I'm definitely not trying to do my own port job....

My next question... How much more beneficial is getting the whole cat back done opposed to just throwing in a new muffler??? I'm trying to let her breath a little better, so would there be enough extra power to justify a 200 dollar difference??

Thanks for the help...

Well the power gain from any cat back system on a NA 3.4 is not going to much, 15hp and you would be doing very good. the headers have a proven 10hp on a NA 3.4 but they are a little out of you price range (about $600 for the CT group buy).

And you can get a short ram intake for $50 shipped on ebay, that is what i got and it works great and uses standard 3" filters.

Honestly, for $500 you're not going to add any discernible power to your truck. With a cat-back you'll gain a few extra ponies at the wheels but nothing noticeable. Many people will throw on a exhaust or a muffler and their senses trick them into thinking their truck is now quicker due to the sound/feel a new exhaust makes.

But gains from 40-100hp are not very realistic from a simple port-match unless the hole your starting with is the size of a straw.

but insted of port-matching the exhaust manifold u match it with the gasket cause the gasket is always bigger.

dayyyyyuuummm, burn! hahaha sorry that was a good post though

the cat back system sounds like your best bet. but honestly if you're already willing to fork out half a grand for an issue that seems pretty important to you, i would hold off on the purchase, save your pennies and get something really worth your while......TRD Supercharger.......oohhh yeah BABY!

The dyno chart he posted clearly shows a 7 peak HP difference with the addition of a header, not "10 proven hp" as he claimed. To get 10hp you end up spending closer to $1000 than the $500 he budgeted.
