Unhappy I think my speedo is dying....

It seems that whenever my truck is cold the speedo sticks on 0. If I drive it, the odometer still works and eventually the speedo pops up to the right speed.

So, what do you guys think my problem is? Speed sensor?

I don't think it is my cable because the odometer still works.

Is this a good time to fix the offset in my speedo because of the bigger tires?

BTW, I did do a search and came up with very little.

Thanks for the help.

It does sound like your speedometer is going out.

Try lubing the cable. That would be cheaper thana speedometer replacement, and might even work.

I've had this problem when I get alot of water under my Runner. I've been told it's my speed sensor. It has since miraculously cured itself.

I saw a reliability ratings site that said the speedo sensor failing was common on 2nd gens. Mine was replaced right before I bought it to cure funny speedo behavior.

My spedometer miraculously cured itself also, except this was after I got the lift. My truck some how now reads right on the speed, milage, everything with 33's on it, NO GEAR CHANGE, just the stock 4.56's. I fave up trying to figure it out a long time ago. It's funny to see some mechanics when I tell them that.

My speedo is acting up again. Sometimes it doesn't work but now it likes to stick on 26, 47, and 71 mph. When it first got stuck on 47 mph I thought my tranny was slipping. Thankfully it isn't. Does anyone know about changing this thing? Will ATF come out if I remove it? Could it just be a connection somewhere?

Any other help would be great.

AgRunner06,

Did you ever find a fix to this problem and/or repair it? I'm starting to have the same problem. I let the Runner warm up before I go in the morning, but the speedometer doesn't start to work until the temp gauge gets to about the middle.

Thanks

hey guys, my speedo needle "bounces" up and down as it operates. I have been looking into the repair and replacement of the cable BUT i dont have the noice or clicking everyone is talking about here. Would mine be a different problem? my trusted mehanic suggested I lube the speedo cable...Am I waisting my time doing this? I was hoping to get some of that graphite lube everyone recommends and try that.. CAn I lube from the trany end or do I have to go through the cluster?

thank you in advance
