Thought I'd put the question out there; How's your on-road wet traction? I'm not sure if it's my tires or just a "feature" of all 4runners. The roads can be bone dry and I'll roll through a small puddle of water and BAM! I'm fish tailin out of the parking lot! It's scary driving in the rain because a little too much throttle and my tires are breaking lose. I have Michelin LTX factory spec tires..they do have some miles on them but tread is still good. They do have have some weather cracks though.

 

if they have weather cracks they are dry rotting, thus they are harder, and your getting less traction...michelins have always done me wrong! every car i have had them on it seems like my wet traction sucks...

and i have 31' bfg AT's and no slip in water like what you have

 

I think it mostly has to do with what kind fo tires you have. I have BFG MTR's on a SAS and they are uber scary in any sort of puddle. I hydroplane like anything!

A lot of people think there bad in the rain...
Personally, best tires I have driven on,
As for breaking loose, I need to force the Runner too....

How many miles you think you have on them?

And what is your driving style like...
I have BFG Rugged Trails (worst tire imo)
and when they were wearing, they wore bad,
and driving in the rain was like driving a car with over 1000hp and no drive line or suspension issues to compensate for the power, I would be everywhere

 

It's your tires, you need something with newer rubber and possibly more siping.

 

I was wondering if the rubber was harder due to the dry rot. Are the BFG AT's good on-road? I almost never go off-road.

I've personally put about 40k on them. The person I bought the tires from said they were new but after digging through the paper work when I got home looks like they may have had 20k on them when I bought the runner. I guess I'm due for new tires huh?

 

correction: the person I bought the TRUCK from said they were new.

This is my 3rd set of michelin ltx-at tires, and they where never the best in the rain. They sure do last a long time though.
I've had a set of bfg at tires, and they became noisy quite fast. They do have a good looking tread pattern imo.

 

My Step father has Goodyear Tires, there of the Forterra Series, not the triple tread technology but more of an A/T Type, And let me ell you those things are like glue!

 

That can't be good for the gas milage

 

I've only managed to slide once by accident, giving it too much gas around a tight turn. Other than that, I've never had any problems driving in the rain. Tires are nothing fancy--Stampede SUV something-or-anothers...

 

yea, 60k, i think it maybe time to look into some new rubber before you end up on your rims on the shoulder on the highway.

Well guys, I work at tire pros, and I hear the bridgstone duelers are the way to go. The new revo series is suposed to be the newest technology for rubber compound. we sell alot of them, and they seem to wear great also. I personally have run BFG allterains on my truck, and they are just alright. currently I'm running SS TSL's....so not much help there. that revo is the way to go.

the ltx m/s on my truck when i got it (no lie) were from the factory, 136k miles i believe is what it had. they were into the wear bars though. those tiires last like crazy. prev owner did alot of highway driving. he had reciepts from getting them balanced.
