how to test crank sensor and cam sensor?

hello everyone, I'm new here to this forum and hoping you guys can help. My girlfriends parents have a 2000 4runner 4cyl. that won't start. One day it would just not start, it would crank and turn over but won't fire. All fuses are good, so I want to check coils, cam, and crank position sensors but havent for the life of me found resistance specs to test them. I know they probably have haynes manuals but I'm trying to save t he m as much money as I can. You guys have any numbers for resistance and which writes to probe? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I'd like to add that I've been looking all day and haven't found much. Perhaps I just didn't look in the right spot. If you guys could point me in that direction, that would be great too! Thanks again

plug on of the coil out and put a screw driver in the hole where it would go on the plug. hold it by the plastic near some metal maybe 1/8-1/4in gap. have some one crank the motor and look to see if its sparking. problem could be fuel, spark, or compression. Also when cranking does it sound normal.

I just clicked it and it works for me. Yes, it's the cam sensor on page IG-5, plus other good stuff. Go here:http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1996/SIL/fsm/repair.html and scroll down to Ignition: On-Vehicle Inspection

See if that works.

Yikes. I just noticed you have a 4Banger. I sent you to the 6 cyl FSM. ncttora has other FSM's that should cover your motor.

http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html

The Tacoma FSM they have covers the 3VZ-FE.
