Ok I have a 2003 Tundra V6 with the elbow and the ISR mod.
My sister drove our parents has 98 4Runner 4x4 stock. We where going to our friends house and at a random stop light she REVVED on me.
And the light turns green she gets a jump on me. Her rear bumper is at my front fender after that we stay even all the way untill 80mph.
How could this be why is her 98 4Runner 4x4 faster than mine a 03 Tundra 4x2. When we got to our friends house she kept on telling me how SLOW my new truck is. I mean I brake tq @ 2000rpm while she just floored from a stand still. I check both our engines and she has only one cat converter and the tranny kick down cable. WHY:pat: did she beat me isn't the 4Runner rated @ 185 hp and 195 tq while mine is rated @ 190 hp and 220 tq.
Could it be that the 4Runner ECU is programed for a more agressive fual mapping than my tundra

 

It's probably because you weigh 200 lbs. and she weighs 100 lbs. Kidding by the way.

Try more practice. When that doesn't work try checking to see what final drive gear ratios she has compared to yours.

Ummm, isn't the tundra the the biggest toyota pickup out? I would think that your weighs a few hundred pounds more. Does she have AC, power windows, locks and all that? Same ? to you. All those change the amount of weight in the car to the point you can notice a difference. More than likely it is just the weight issue, since you said you kept up with her after the initial get up and go.

She just had a better launch... and there is no way she could have gotten a car length ahead of you at the start by just rolling on the gas and you brake torqueing at 2k. She must have been doing it too. Does she have a stick? That could have really helped her launch. Was your AC on?

 

i wouldnt say 5hp or even 25ft-lbs of torque is enough to make much of a difference either way. with a difference that small vehicle weight is prob the main factor

 

Reasons why she beat you, 1 you have a V6 Tundra nothin wrong their but isn't the Tundra a heavy truck in general and 2 she probably weights in at 100 lbs which for a truck does not register at all so it was like you raced an empty 4Runner, you on the other had probably register double your weight, just simple physics how much gas did the both of you have cause that makes a different, ever race a slow car when it is on empty

 

Well both are auto and power everything. I KNOW she did not tq brake. , But the diff in weight is about 420lb. So I figure the truck needs to lose some weight and so do I. And the only other thing I can think of is that my trucks throttle butterfly is controlled by the ECU(Drive-by-wire) the 98 Runner is controlled by the throttle cable. It's just that the low end on a Tundra V6 is SAD it needs MORE grunt below 2500 rpm.

I DO NOT weight 420lb the thats the difference between the 4Runner and the Tundra. TheTundra is 420lb heavyer than the 4Runner:pat:

 

I know why she beat you, a dude on TundraSolutions.com has a SC V8 Tundra and he races his friends Lightning, he says he is pretty even with him but after 80mph the truck lets off, like the gear ratio in either the trans or axle is just not set up to pull away at that speed.

EDGE V8toilet is NOT supercharged I know this. All he has is a spintech muffler. I think you are refurring to mjoff He has TRD V8 S/C TRD Duals and Headers and the QTEC cut-out witha Unichip. His time was a 13.99. He's the one who raced a Lightning(I WANT one so bad):cry:

 

does power shifting (shifting through gears manually on an auto) make a difference? i do that when i need to get up to speed *wink* ; i feel i can stay on the gears longer.

 

I think that on our transmissions, where you can pretty much redline it, the "power shifting" would have a negative effect.

But it did work well on my old 88 Monte Carlo with the 305 V8

 

Ask her to teach you how to drive
This should be a lesson, never try to beat a 4Runner

 

Shifting manually on an auto tranny is more effecient, but if you wait to late then the rev limiter will kick in and your shift will be slower. Rev limiters prevent the toy engins from blowing up, so give it hell
