how loud is your 2nd gen during acceleration??

My 2nd gen is pretty loud during acceleration. I hate trying to describe sound, but it's the tinny pinggy sound. God I feel retarded trying to describe sounds.... I had the engine rebuilt last summer, so I'm pretty sure the engine is doing ok. I wonder if I should use a different oil, what is recomended?

Mine screams, but it is due to the FIPK on it. I also have the dreaded injector ticking...

Mine has the pinging sound too (22re) which I think might be due to overtolleranced valves but a friend said I probably have an exsost leak so you might check that. The valves on the 3.0 are auto adjusting so that shouldn't be a veriable for you.

One easy thing to check is your steering shaft seal.
If it is broken, a lot of ticking noise comes thru.
It was so loud it made me think my engine was messed up.
After fixing the sound is gone.
Dealer stocks the part.
Can't hurt to look.

Man, mine makes that damned ticking sound too. I can't really hear it when the windows are up but when they're down it sounds terrible. Mine's a mix of injectors and valves. Not much you can do really.

Yeah, definately check the steering shaft seal. Mine was gone when I bought the runner and it took me quite a while (I'm embarrassed to say) to figure it out. But when I replaced it, the ticking stopped (inside the truck anyway)

Mine is just noisey period. It is bad under acceleration. I also notice it a lot when against a wall--like in a drivethru.

LC Engineering 22re with 94mm pistons, big bore throttle body, tall cam, ported heads, 16 guage headers, K&N filtercharger kit, 2.25" exhaust with free flow cat, chambered muffler.
Translation:
more valve train noise from the tall cam, lots more air coming in and going out, thin wall headers popping on every exhaust stroke, deep throaty sounds (NOT THOSE KIND! ), hideous induction noises I could live without, big VROOM! coming out the back that I like too much.
All around, I like the power, but I'm kinda tired of the sound of it which poses a problem since my current intent is to do the same thing on my '93 4Runner. I think not going with the open K&N next time will make a big difference. Fantasy plans include putting an '82 Supra AFM on the passenger side pulling air from inside the fender or possibly a snorkel even though I personally think they look kinda stupid. The sound I find the most annoying is the induction noise.

with the windows up mine is really quiet. Windows down and i get the ticking noise like all the other 3.0s, and lately i hear an odd noise coming out of the airbox, but nothing loud. I second (or fifth?) checking the steering seal

My 22RE truck is loud as crap.

Might be because I don't have a muffler and I have a custom intake.

Sounds great, but loud. I love it.
