How to prevent rust spots?
Ever since I bought my 4runner last year the upstate New York rain, snow, and salted roads have been taking their toll on my vehicle's exterior. I've used more than a few bottles of rust converter and underspray on the undercarriage and that seems to be under control. The exterior panels, however, are a different story. I keep getting all these little rust spots all over the hood, roof, and side panels. I've already waxed them out three times this summer (using Finish 2001), but the rust spots just keep coming back. Anyone know the best wax or other product for keeping these rust spots away (short of a new clear coat).

I think I'd try a better wax. I used the 2001 stuff on my Mustang and it only lasted about 2 months here in Illinois. So far for me, NuFinish has lasted longer than anythign I've found although it's not a very deep glossy looking finish...

Are these rust spots very small?...like rusty specs, smaller than a grain of sand? I noticed your truck is white...if so, that is not rust but fallout. A claybar will remove some, I like to use acid to totally remove them. You'll need to polish and wax after though. If it is actual rust, chances are those were rock chips which broke paint, and the bare exposed metal is rusting. I noticed Toyota's fiercely rust on the roof from even a very tiny paint chip.
