hot manual transmission
My transmission is getting so hot I feel the heat through floor boards. Any ideas on what can cause this. I'm thinking putting new fluid won't hurt but I can't see old fluid making it heat up that much. The clutch felt like it was slipping a while ago but I replace the slave cylinder and it solved the problem. I think it just wasn't realeasing the clutch all the way. It's a 2000 Tacoma v6 4x4 manual

Now is it getting so hot you are unable to touch the shifter after driving 5 miles
Your sure it is the transmission ??
I get quite a lot of heat from the crossover pipe after a few hours of driving in 90 Degree temperatures

The shifter isn't getting hot. But if I get under and feel the tranny and transfer case the whole thing is as hot as the engine. I did the timing belt recently a d at first I was thinking it must be off and running rich but the floorboards on the driver side are hot and the catalytic converter is on the driver side. It could be coming from the crossover pipe but it does seem like the whole tranny is way hotter than it should be. It happens in the morning when it's about 70 on a 30 mile drive to work.

It should be hot after driving 30 minutes on the freeway with ambient air at 70ºF. It's getting hot engine air that additionally passes the exhaust manifolds and crossover pipe blown on it 100% of the time, and it's generating a small amount of it's own heat from internal friction. And the exhaust pipes and cat are right near it.

Changing the gear oil is super easy, getting the right level is super important........also, you can get a cheap OBDII reader and the torque smartphone app and for your year I believe it provides realtime transmission temp readings.

I don't think it gives you readings for manual transmissions. Temp is never really an issue with them.
