HELP!! Small rust spots developing! AWWWWWW

Ok, it finally thawed out and of course like everyone else, I went to wash the rig. I was washing the tailgate and there they were, two tiny rust spots. It is an 02 and I wax it twice a year and I wash it regularly. How do I stop it and can I repair it easily? Thy are just surface deep so I better get on it before it gets worse. Thanks.....B

depending on how deep they are you can try and sand out the spot and then put some touch up on it. If you dont want to do that you can take it to a shop and have them do it. hope this helps

go cougs

Toyota will sell you a small bottle of paint to match your vehicle for like 15 bucks. It comes with a mini-brush applicator. It's great for little nicks on the edges of doors and for rock chips on the hood, but for larger areas of rust you'll probably need to sand and spray for a more even look.

Thanks, thats what I was thinking. Is this common this early? I live in Kansas, not Califorina. I mean the truck is only 4 1/2 years old. I also noticed it on the bumper..just very little spots. Anyways, it is just frustrating.

They are probably caused by a tiny chip in the paint. Claybar it and it will take all that crap right off. A little elbow grease on the chrome will take it off. Mine used to do the same thing every spring.

Is this on a chrome bumper? the tailgate itself?
Please clarify or pics would be even better.

I'm just barely starting to get a tiny rust spot on my rear bumper, but the bumpers up here tend to rust out from behind very fast. I've used some Wenol polish on it for now and it keeps the rust from bleeding too badly, but I'm sure it won't be long before I need to replace it. Behind the bumper the rust is just rediculous and you can see why it won't be long before it eats through. The salt and sand in winter is just relentless at finding any weak links in the chain.

Doesn't Toyota have a warranty on rust up to 100,000 miles?

Thumbs up Paint

My buddy had this problem on his 1999 4runner it was just wax deep! The paint can pick up road crap and industrial fallout. It apears like little rust spots. Just clean it with a wax remover, clay bar it and reaply a new coat of wax! Should look good as new!
Hope this helps!
