Help remove p/s hose from gearbox!

Due to a rust leak on the power steering high pressure hose i've ordered a new hose assembly. ($400)

I am trying to remove the bad hose, i can reach the hoses connecting to the reservoir no problem, but cant get to the steering gearbox or really see it properly from above or below. To make things more complicated the truck is parked in my driveway which is at an angle (so can't keep the truck up with supports).

I've done some searching & found a forum thread where the owner removed the steering gear box just to disconnect the return hose.
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...cement-188709/

Does anyone have any tricks or tips, I would really appreciate it!!! THis is the biggest project mechanically i've ever done, but im really interested in learning.

regards

That side is easy to remove, as it's in reach. Im referring to the other side, where the hoses go to the steering gearbox.

Power steering hose removal '98 4runner 4WD auto

Somehow my Power Steering high pressure line got too close to the A/C compressor pulley behind it & that wore a hole in the rubber part of the hose (& sprayed fluid everywhere). I've removed both skid plates & can almost see where the high pressure hose connects to the steering gear box. That's a tight fit! It looks impossible to get to. I read a discussion on removing that hose, but it was for a different year/engine. You could actually see everything in their pictures.

Does anyone have experience removing it on a 3rd Gen 4runner with 3.4L engine? Do I need to remove the PS unit, or driver's side axle?

BTW, I called a local diesel shop & they can make a replacement high pressure hose for about $40. No $400 Toyota part for me.

...Except after I'd removed the hose & taken it to the diesel shop, they said they couldn't make a new one. They didn't have the banjo connector. I specifically asked the guy on the phone about Toyota connectors & banjo connectors & he said yes. Don't you hate that! If I'd known, I would have ordered it online & it would have arrived already. I ended up paying $120 for an Edelmann made one.

I'll take pictures as I reassemble it & post them here.
