HELP my truck won't start!

went to go start the truck today and it won't start. When i turn the key you hear a fast paced ticking sound comming from where the alarm and clutch switches are. It is not the sound of a bad starter. It is definatley some sort of electrical malfunction, checked all the fuses and none where blown. Anyone ever experance this or know what this ticking sound is? Also my alarm switch is no longer illuminated.
Any advice aprecated
thanks in advanced TJ

I am no expert. Can you push start the truck? If you can it is probably the starter contacts. I know my brother push started his truck for monthes before replacing the starter contacts which fix the problem.

Check your starter relay and your ignition switch.

dead battery?

If not, then I would suspect the start contacts, relay, or ignition switch.

this might be going out on a limb, but what if the alarm system got messed up somehow so that it prevents the car from starting. that is if your alarm system does that... maybe try disconnecting the alarm and see if that does any good.

If your alarm has the ignition kill, I'd be willing to bet that is the problem. I'd have it taken to a stereo shop and have them make sure that is the problem and then remove the alarm.

Just my $.02

well i got home from school today and went to go start the truck just to see if by gods grace it would start, well it did! But then I dicconceted the - battery cable because I didn't like the way it was seated on the terminal, and went to go start it and heard the ticking noise again. So then I thought their may be a bad conction at the battery so I took off both leads and clean the conecters and the terminals on the battery. Well that did nothing. But i have found out exactly where the sound is coming from, it comes from the relay that sits right on top of the fuse box that is underneath the drivers side dash. May be the relay is bad? Any one know what this relay is?
