Help with 90 4RUNNER V6 alternator

How does one go about getting it out of the engine bay? I changed an alternator before by just un-doing the bolts and connections but this looks like its stuck in there.Whats the trick.

If I recall from when I had my '90 4Runner 3.sl0w, there was no trick. I don't think it was any different then replacing an alternator in a domestic (other than almost busting the electrical connector).

What other parts have to be removed to pull the alternator out? Does it come out the wheel-well, or do I remove the air box and or other crap?

There's a bolt on the top, then an adjuster bolt on the bottom. Remove the bottom one first to get it loose and slide the belt off, then remove the one on the top. From there, you can shimmy it out towards the radiator. Now that I think about it, I had the electric fan on mine and the shroud removed, so that might've helped me. If anything, just remove the air intake tubing and you should be able to get it out that way.

Ya after using the search button I found that removing the air box is the way to go. I will find out soon enough.

It was easy. Took me 2 hours although.(hard to find the bolts I dropped in the snow)The cabin air cleaner box and another box under it had to be removed but the actual air filter box stayed. Got a used alternator from the wrecker for $125. The old one was saturated in engine oil from the distributor (Probably why it was failing), but I will keep it and try to rebuild it case.

Please tell me you didn't end up going to Alpi's. Those guys are the biggest ripoff artists around. Cambodian tire sells rebuilt alts for not too much more. The brushes are only 13 bucks from toyota as well and can be replaced in 10 or 20 minutes.

If not Alpi's which wreckers in the lower mainland would you recommend for used 4runner parts? I was actually thinking about going down there to look around during the weekdays, because they're not open during weekends.

Ralphs,, there is another one that is near there as well. Down the street and the first right. I only say that Alpi's are crooks cause they are. Makes the prices up in his head and changes from moment to moment.
