Headlight Aiming (3rd Gen)?
Good Evening,
Sorry for the naive question, but anybody know how to aim the headlights on a 3rd gen 4Runner? Mine seem to point a little low on low beam, so I planned to raise them up a tonight. Trouble is, when I tried to adjust them, it wasn't as obvious as on my other cars. I only found a couple of what appeared to be adjustment points - 2 10mm nuts on the back of the headlight assembly b/w the light and the core support, 1 high and 1 low and each very close to the grill. I cranked on each of these quite a few turns in each direction, but there appeared to be no change in the headlight aim. I ran out of daylight before I could find any other adjusting points, so I thought I'd post a quick question before trying again tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

There is 2 adjustment points per side. One vertical, One horizonal. All of these adjustments can be done with a long #2 phillips.
I suggest parking on a level surface pointing at a flat wall. Tweak the headlights as needed. Dont get crazy with it, youll get them all outta whack.
Alternativly, I suggest you just take it somewhere and let them use the equiptment to properly aim them. Doesnt cost more than about 15-20 bucks. I do it for free if asked.
Should I go take a picture of my tacoma's adjusters?

Yes, they are quite strange but you did find the adjustment screws.
The upper screw adjusts the headlight horizontally & the lower screw adjusts the vertical. It wasn't much fun when I was adjusting mine, but luckily I only needed some minor tweaking...
Hope it helps.

I had to adjust the headlights on my new Xterra; because I kept getting flashed by other drivers who thought I had my high beams on, and when in reality the stock headlights (which are absolutely awesome ) are very bright (they're like those super white ones, and have this weird multiple reflector stuff in the assembly that looks like a disco ball ) and they were aimed really high... By high I mean when behind someone they would be shining straight through onto their head rests (on pretty much every non-4x4 truck/suv that was the case) So I was looking around on how to lower them (didn't feel like taking it to the dealer ) And there are two plastic hole things with some gear looking things by each headlight, and all it took was a turn of a philips screw driver in there a few times, and they were perfect, and I haven't gotten flashed yet I have no clue what the adjusters are like on a 3rd gen, but on a 2nd Gen there's 2 screws one above the headlight, the other on the side and you access them from the front of the headlight.
Good luck with it!!!
