Headers

The latest mod i have been looking into for my 02 3.4L Tacoma is a pair of Downey Headers. To me headers make sense becasue the increase airflow flow out of the engine. But I have been doing some research and talking to some buddies and have recieved mixed signals concerning bang for the buck. Are they worth the $400 dollars as far as perfromance goes? Advise would be appreciated.

If you can do everything installed for under $600, I would say yes, they are worth it.

Don't expect much though. I have two nearly identical 4Runners right now, and a couple days ago one was SC'd (no other mods except a muffler) and my 96 (mods in my sig). The SC'd 4Runner would annihilate mine in a race. No contest. Just something to think about.

Has anyone mentioned the header install sucks?

yeah, i installd my own. BIG mistake. i do notice a drastic change in throttle response, but in order to get the full effect, ya gotta go s/c. I paid about $200 for mine.

I answer this question a lot... The short form is that if you're not S/C'd. then I would NOT recommend spending the money on headers. I did that, and in the end the gain wasn't worth it. If you are S/C'd, the headers will really show their worth.

I have some babble online about how I dealt with the install:
