Headers for the 3.4

OK, so I've searched and searched. Tons of info on headers. I see now that Downey's don't work with a body lift. WHY? Christian has Edelbrock's but I can't find them ANYWHERE. Also, most of the threads are pretty old and some of the websites don't work. Lets recap this a bit for me. Brands/prices/where to get/will they work with a body lift? I only want ceramic coated headers.

The reason behind all of this: My exhaust has 185k miles, and makes a really crappy noise, is rusty, leaks, and I think I'm lacking a bit of performance. Idle is a bit rough, and there isn't much low end anymore.

I'll be getting headers with a Magnaflow 14", new cats, and all new pipes. All of this is making way for the S/C!! *don't think my old engine is going to like all of this*

97 4Runner 4WD, 3.4V6, Auto, 2" Body lift.

I'm using downey 3.4 headers on my 3rd gen. 4runner but i have 2" body lift.
my cousin has downey 3.4 headers on the same year 4runner w/o any lift.

do you plan on getting the headers with or without the crossover. I dont know how their crossovers run, connect on the bottom or connect behind the motor. I know that TRD ones have a crossover like the stock headers, behind the motor along the firewall.

Awesome. All I really wanted was confirmation of the body lift issue and the downeys. Do you have the x-over pipe from downey?

No, I have the cross-under pipe that came with the Edelbrocks. I plan on welding some type of underbelly protection that would prevent this pipe from being crushed in the unlikely event that a rock was shaped just right, crushing the pipe in an impact.

The pipe does not hang lower than other vital parts though, so I am probably being overly cautious. It just looks exposed for some reason.

Be sure to get them coated if you go with Edelbrocks.

Did I mention the install sucks?

Check out JBA's, I understand they make a fine product and I know they have 3.4 applications. The ceramics are in the $700 range. Also from what ive read the TRD's arent all that, something about the crossover??

So we still don't know if Downey's will work in a 3rd gen with a 2" body lift? JBA's seem SUPER expensive.

I avoided Downey's because they repeatedly stated they would not work with a BL. Why, I have no idea. I honestly cannot think of a good reason. If anything, a BL only helps tremendously with the install (trust me it does).

Get ahold of them and ask them why. If they can't provide a good answer, buy elsewhere. Good luck though, I had the hardest time finding a number for Downey, so I gave up.

I don't think he is running his with a body lift but did you see what Gadget had to say:

http://www.gadgetonline.com/exhaust.htm

"Aside from the supercharger, the Edelbrock headers were the single most noticeable increase in overall performance. It is also the most cost effective performance item I installed. "

I find it odd that Gadget reviews the TRD headers so well. I've read so many times about people hating them. Rust and all. I think I'll put headers on the backburner as I've lost a little bit of interest with them, and no product seems to be comprehensive. I want a totally new exhaust system and thats a bit out of my budget with the new coils, slidres, alternator, and possibily a bumper.
