HBoss/body work on a 3rd Gen Updated
My 5 day repair job for my truck has turned into 3 weeks. I am not going to get into details except the truck has suffered more damage in the shop than what I brought in to have repaired.
Anyway, I need to know if anyone has had their rear quarter panel glass pulled. If so, when the glass was replaced did you get a good seal? My seams are no longer flush and the GM is trying to tell me that it only goes in one way so they have no control over the seam. I do know that it was flush before they pulled it.
Also, anyone that has had to have their roof painted, did your rain gutter appear as smooth as the rest of the paint or does it look a little rough?
At this rate my shinny truck is becoming a battered trail rig for me

I'm really sorry to hear your news, Hermes. I can't say I've had the rear quarter panels replaced, but my windows are certainly flush like your's used to be. I would most certainly complain about that until they get it right.
As for the rain gutter: it's smooth as a baby's behind! I can't even tell they did any work to it at all except for the fact that the paint doesn't quite have the same 'worked-in/fade' value.
In my humble opinion, 3 wks for a 1 wk job, including mistakes is unacceptable.

1 week was spent dealing with the roof rack and getting the right parts. They gave me either my old strips (damaged) or a whole new factory rack.
Thank you Jackson for listing the part numbers to the roof strips
The shop used to do great work, don't know what happened.

Hermes,
I have had the right rear 1/4 replaced and the 1/4 glass on the other side taken out. I also had the rear part of the roof painted.
When doen right the glass should be flush. I am not sure what they trying to tell you. Other then them maybe using the wrong gasket or something making the glass sit in there differently, it should be flush. My truck fell on it's side and apparently slide for a ways
by the way that gasket is torn up and it still fits flush.
You can only put the seal in one way. Sometimes gaskets take a little time to seat depending on the weather and how they were stored, but those are only small tolerances.
The rain gutter should also be smooth. If you have a textured look like orange peel, puddling(sp?), or just not shiny in just those parts it's the paint guys.
Raise some stink:cry: even if just about the paint alone.
Good Luck

Brush marks?....what the...what are these bozo's doing, using a brush and roller? I would go totally ape ˟˟˟˟! I dread the day I ever need body work. Sounds like the BS there is thick as Bondo. I would not accept anything that is so obviously wrong. These clowns must think everyone is an idiot and will believe anything they say. I hate jerks like that. Give 'em hell...crappy work and long wait = clowns at work. I hope you can sort them out, of course, that may mean you'll have a longer wait. Good luck.

The body shop is starting to become difficult now. They claim that there is no way to make that rain gutter trough look like rest of paint. It is impossible to do as it is a seam. I don’t buy that explanation - is it really a seam that will not accept new paint?
Also, they claim that glass trim can't be flush as it only goes in one way. I am worried about water seeping in or gathering and starting a rust spot. They say the water sealing is on the inside of glass opening and this is for cosmetics.
I called my insurance but they can't help as this is being repaired by the parking garage that started this nightmare and they cut me a check based on the estimate. So I am on my own to find a resolution.
They are fixing the scratches and sanding mistakes (where they took off all the paint) that are their fault. Additionally, they are buffing the glass to remove the scratch they put in it when they pulled it.
They do have a lifetime warranty. I am hoping to get the truck out ASAP so I may take it to another body shop and to a dealer to have them review the work to either validate or disprove their claims.
What a PITA.

Definitely get 1 or 2 more opinions on it from reputable paint/body shops before going back. Their explanation just seems to me like they are covering up for a poorly done job. I could be wrong, but check around first man.
