It will take you two trips out there, unless he has Mikes (smr4runners) design on paper since he has a 3rd gen.
If not, he will have to measure you up the first trip, then have you come back in a few days to get them put on.
I think it took him around 2 to 3 hours to put mine on.
While you are out there, there are several Toys out there to drool over.
He has a nice SAS'd '89 in the shop right now he is working on for his own use, and it's a flatbed.
His wife's Tacoma is looking real sharp now.

Painting the tank and member (huh, huh-huh, I said "member") would be cool. The clean-up before painting would be a bit of work though. I'm wondering if they would still be noticeable with sliderz on, probably not...

It depends on the sliders... I've seen some that are pretty open and those you'd be able to ctach glimpses of "something there" which could be cool.
The pre-paint clean up would be a pain, a LOT of elbow grease for sure - but I think it'd be worth it.
The bummer would be wanting to re-paint them every time they get nicked!

Depends on why you wanna take them off. I would've left my stock ones on but I didn't b/c my wife has trouble getting into the 4runner w/o them. I didn't like the stock ones either so I fab'd up some from a free set of Xterra step tubes. See my write up in the sig area.
Neither the stock running boards or the ones I fab'd will protect your 4runner in off-roading situations. Better get rock sliders.

Anyways, checked out Badlandtoys here in Washington, 250.00 + 65.00 for powder coating for a pretty rugged set of bars, +65.00 for install. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me...
