proabably.....find one of those gear ratio calculators that will tell you the optimum, and see how far it deviates.

 

well i did and it didn't seem like it should make to much of a problem, just hurt gas mileage a bit, at least around town. but just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience at it...

 

i have stock gearing right now and its not as bad as everyone said it was gonna be...im getting at least 200mi to one tank..but i think im going to still regear because it is kind of slow picking up from a complete stop like at red lights. and i think i read somewhere that regearing will reset the speedometer so it is more accurate to compensate for the bigger tires but im not sure if that is true...

 

I run Q78's(~35.5" tall) with stock 4.10's and still drive it on the highway without much problem. If it wasnt for the dual cases wheeling it would suck, though.

 

on my 2nd gen with 4.556 gears, are 35's wise. I use my truck for abouit half daily driving half wheeling....

I ran 35's on my 3.slow with stock 4.10's and I got horrible gas mileage...I think i averaged out anywhere from 10 to 12mpg. It wasn't too slow but it was definately slow. I would put 5.29's in...just my opinion.

 

So you're getting like 11-12 mpg? That's gotta suck, if you pay for your own gas

Regearing should bring your speedo and odo back to about where they should be.

 

I ran 35s for awhile and I'm with 4x4runnerGIrL - it wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be. I didn't even notice any real loss of power ... the only thing I noticed was that it took a bit longer to stop (of course) and that mpgs suffered.

 

Had 35's on my '03 3.4 Taco - No hole shot. Had to ride the clutch a bit longer off the line. Passing gear didn't. 4-Lo wasn't. Gas mileage wasn't a whole lot different (I'm not generally a slow driver and I spent most of my time on the freeway).

The difference was definately there. You could feel in in every aspect of the way the truck moved. It wasn't bad, per se, just different.

 

I run 305/70/16 MTs on stock gearing (3.90 i believe) and it brought my highway gas mileage to about 18.5 or 19... and my city mpg to about 10 or so.. thats calculated by trip per tank. dividing trip miles driven per 1 tank (14.5 gallons). Hope that helps.. expect to get a bit less than me then.

 

I hope you guys are adjusting your miles driven since your odometer is not showing actual miles driven. I have to add 25% to the number of miles on the odo to get the ACTUAL miles, since my tires are 25% larger than stock, thus spinning 25% less of a revolution, thus only registering 25% of the actual miles driven.

I have 36's and 4.10's with my 5 speed 3.0, and it sucks arese off the line, but doesnt do too bad once I get the RPM's up to 2500 or more.

I get ~14mpg. About the same as I got before the 36's.

 

I'm running 37" boggers with 4:10 gears with a 22re on my 85 Runner. It's not that bad.

You drive in low range all the time, right?

 

Everybody always brings up how it effects you on the road. It will speed you up off road. Going down steep slopes you will be hitting your brakes, and crawling rocks will lead to a bogged down engine.

 

I donno why, but, I feel my truck is bogged with my 33s and steel wheels...

I have 4.30 gearing too....
