Im having a hard time starting my 96' tacoma 4cl when hot. For example runs for 5 min. starts fine but runs for 15 min. it is hard to start. Took it to the mechanic spent 500.00 dollars and he cant find the problem. change computer,spark plugs and wires ngk,comp. check, injecters cleaned. Any help?

 

temp sensor, MAF, or o2 sensors, as well FuelPressureRegulator check these for proper working order...
Is this a cali. spec truck???

Basically I always seem to think this issue is due to one of these however it could be due to less continuity when the truck is warm and metal has a reduced continuity so be sure to check grounds as well!!

It would be helpful if you give more details around the whole issue like describing what it does do and does not do...

 

I have the same truck, with the same problem. It will start fine on even the coldest mornings. But if you have been driving it through a hot desert and stop to get gas.... It takes a few cranks, and some time letting it think about it before it finally catches and there isnt any problems.

I have the same problem. Changed the fuel filter but the problem still ocurred within a week. I was wondering if the fuel change at the station to a "summer blend" here in GA could be the culprit? Today when leaving work the same thing happened to another coworker but on another vehicle brand with the same symptoms. Any ideas out there?

 

you must go through the tests to know what the issue is!! test test test!!!!!
test all things linked to starting and intake MAF TPS O2 sensors Temp sensor....

Fuel could have something to do with it but you must run the tests to be sure!!!

 

I don't know about the 96 but it's usually more difficult to check for fuel than spark. Just put a timing light on a plug wire and see if it's sparking before it's starting. If it is, check for proper fuel pressure. If you get both spark and fuel before starting your next step should be to look at the air/fuel ratio while cranking. This is mostly a factor of coolant temperature, interpretation by the ECU and outputs to the IAC and injectors.
