Gotta laugh!!!

You know I don't use my horn that often and I don't even really hear it when I do use it....But today just driving down my road I turned down my radio and beeped at the woods....lol....what a wimpy sounding horn for such a revered truck that's supposed to be ballsy and "macho".....Sorry if that seemed to be a little sexicst but it wasn't intended....You think Toyota would've put a beefier sounding horn in....lol...

Just my opinion....

Yeah...lots of people have replaced their horns for that same exact reason. I think about it every so often, but it keeps getting pushed down the priority list!

My wife cracks up every time I honk at somebody. Its like a whiny "Hey man, you-you---you get the hell outa my way----you bad driver person."

The first time I heard it I made one of those :wtf: faces.

Nate,

I think you described the stock Toyota horn to a T.

I decided not to do the air horn thing since I'm going to sell my 4Runner soon, and get a newer one. So I NEVER use my horn, it sucks. I used to blow the horn in my Explorer constantly, but now I refuse to. When I get a new truck, air horns are going to be my first mod.

Its all about safety..

Its high piched and loud, engineered that way for a reason, most domestic horns are just loud and hard to hear sometimes because of thier lower pitch..

Call me less of man because I dont have a "tough" sounding horn, Its all about safety..

Can you see the air horns in this picture?

Chris on Chinaman's gulch

They are totally awesome, he sounds like a railroad locomotive and he signals *time to roll* when he leads trail rides. In fact I think they are actual locomotive horns. He runs a York belt driven compressor and part of his Exo-cage serves as the tank. You can hear them from over a mile away sometimes. I think he kept the stock horn though, for more normal situations. He drives around town a lot in that beast. The air horn is controlled by a squeeze valve and hoses that come up through the shifter hole.

P.S. That obstacle will be optional for '03 CO4RJ participants.

After one too many "bad driver persons" or even worse "bad driver persons" who can't even hear my wimpy horn

I went to the parts store and bought a fiamm high and a low horn (about $20 total). Put them in the stock location grounded them to the mount and hooked up the hot wire. I should have removed the grill but I was lazy (there's like a dozen of those clips) But it was about a one grunt on the five grunt, talkin-monkey scale.

The next night it was raining and this lady was chatting on her cell phone and wandering into my lane, with one quick tap on the horn got her attention REAL QUICK and she remembered she was driving and not in her living room.

I think the horn is pretty funny, a friend of mine and I (she has a 4runner too) always honk at each other, especially at school, people look at me like wtf sometimes, probably because of the wimpy horn, but I think that makes it funnier.

Same horn as the Tercel if I read the part code right.

I called min e the "move pretty please horn".
Now I have air horns which make it sound like my Italian Sports Car

Whats up with the women making fun of the horns?!
I think its because our other halves know how picky we are about our Runners and know how to a rise out of us.

My wife always made the same cracks about the wimpy 4Runner horn. She said (and was right) her VW had a meaner sounding horn than my Runner.

The horns was one of my first mods. I threw 2 Freeway Blaster horns from Autozone and I now sound like a steamship foghorn.

Now one of my favorite things to do is wait until my wife is right in front of the Runner, hit the horn, scare the s#*t out of her, hear her bitch about how loud the horns are and then remind her it was all her idea!

My wife drives a pathfinder with a stock security system - the kind that honks the horn (pretty loud) and flashes the lights. One day we were getting ready to head out somewhere and when we got in the car, I remembered I had forgotten something. I went back inside with the keys and when I came back out, before she could see me, I hit the panic button on the key chain. OH!!! MY!!! GOD!!! Now that was funny. She about hit her head on the roof she jumped so hard. Needless to say she was not happy with me - especially since I kept laughing for about 5 minutes down the road.
