Got SS Frankenstruts 3.0 on!

Just got done installing this morning. Only thing it`s not 3.0" because I could not get the shock in with the Revtek spacer. It was longer than the full extension from top mount to bottom mount. The only way I could see to get it in is to compress the shock with the top mounted, but how would I do that?
Anyway, it`s SS Frankenstrut 2.5". Will take it for a spin to settle it and report back with pics. Many thanks go out to Steve Schaefer.

Yes his one is but with a 1.5 Cornfed and the Revtek spacer. I went with the 2.5 Cornfed and tried to use the Revtek spacer w/o success. Went for a ride and I feel much better control. I`m a happy camper with this setup. Now it`s time for new rear OME shocks! The Bisteins are shot.

Went curb crawling after work and this setup is so soft and supple yet plenty control. No more bouncy ride. I can`t wait to take it down some trails. Now I`m looking for something in the back that would match the front. The NWOR springs are stiffer than the front.
For those looking to lift your Runner with crawling in mind and econmy then this is the way to go. Check out Schaefer`s site

What you have to do is take the 4 bolts off at the bottom ball joint. Then you'll get a little extra room and should be able to fit the revtek spacer in.



Mine is 2.0" even.

Thanks for that info Steve, I`ll do that next Sunday. Yeah I was thinking there has to be a way to slip the coilover in, I tried getting the ball joint out of the upper a-arm and disconnecting the sway bar. It gave me some room but just not enough. Your idea should do the trick.

i could not get mine in either, i trashed one of the lower strut bolts trying to jam it in there. the OME struts + 3/8" is about 1/4" too long to put in there.

however, if you get someone to stand on your caliper, it should push it down far enough, it worked for me.

i am hoping to do a similar setup using the PRO-Tech spacers if they will fit with the rev-tek top out spacer. If the protechs won't fit i will just but the cornfeds since i already have the revtek pieces. I am going with a 2.5'' front spacer, top out, and my 1997 factory springs for now. if i don't like then i will upgrade to the 1999 springs. I am just ready to get rid of the spacer/ome combo that belonged to eclayton years ago.

It's easy to get them in there, bolt the top in first, then take the 4 lower ball joint bolts out and you can easily push the lower arm down, insert the lower bolt in the shock and jack the arm back up into place, put the 4 ball joint bolts back in with loc tight.


Taylor, you want to know what kind of underwear I use as well.....................

Hmmm... I thought Steve had 2.5" lift. I am getting really close to ordering all my parts, and maybe I will go with a 2" cornfed instead of the 1.5". After reading all this, it sounds like a 2" spacer and the topout WILL fit.?.?.?

It should because I will make my 2.5 Cornfed and Revtek spacer fit next Sunday. BTW did I mention the ride is soft?
I guess the SS could stand for Steve S. or Super Soft.

2" of lift is optimum. If you go with 2.5" or 3" it will be progressivly stiffer. If you want MAX flex, stick with 2".

yea i know im feeding your ego. :cry: but sometimes you gotta bite the bullet, even it if hurts a lil. i came to realize realize function over fashion, but more importantly the SAWs require too much maintenance for me, i wanted no maintenance and pure reliability.

but on the other hand, lets not forget the 'Wire days when you used to bash "old man elmo" while i (and others) were praising it :lol now youre got 3 out of 4 OME suspension options!

Aint this what its all about, sharing the love?
