Got rear ended/what to expect form insurance?
Hi, all. I got rear ended on Sunday by a lady. Fortunately, no one was hurt and it was her at fault so she was issued a ticket. Her Camry went under my PreRunner a little. My question now is that do you guys think her insurance will replace my bumper with a NEW factory one or an used one. I like to have a new one since my 2003 Tacoma only have 5400 miles on it. Do you guys think I will get it? Her insurance is Allstate. Also, are there any "industrial" terms that I will need to know to get what I want. The local Toyota dealer told me to ask for "original factory equipment".

Take it to your choice for the repairs on the truck. Make sure they use Original Toyota Parts and not aftermarket junk! You'll know what you get as the price will be extremely different.

yes, they WILL try to put aftermarket parts on.
just make sure you say 100 times that that is not acceptable and you will only allow them to use 100% brand new factory parts.

Yep
Yep, they will try to get it fixed as cheap as possible.
Tell them up front that you want OEM parts from Toyota.
Do not sign ANYTHING after your truck is fixed until you have looked it over COMPLETELY and THOROUGHLY. Once you sign that piece of paper, that's it.
Good luck!

i've been rearended twice in my life. both were clearly the fault of the other person (i was already stopped at the light for a while before i got hit - both times!). all i did was take it to my friendly body shop, they did the paperwork, sent it to the insurance company and all was well. never had any issues with non OEM parts or anything. but as everyone on here says, make sure everything is done to your specifications before you sign anything. your truck needs to be fixed to a state where it's as good as it was before the accident.

Laws may vary from state to state regarding what the ins. carrier may or may not do.
My wife's Rodeo was rear-ended awhile back - very minor damage.
I accepted an offer from the other drivers ins. co. to have it repaired at a shop I was somewhat familiar with. They installed used parts, but looked brand new.
If you search the web, you'll find there are a wide variety in prices for bumpers, etc. by the different junkyard web dealers. Because the vehicle was 10 yrs. old and had alot of miles, I accepted their approach. It turned out well. As a matter of fact, the garage in my opinion ripped of the ins. co. They replaced parts that had no damage whatsoever. This is one of the reasons why ins. is so high.
On the other hand, if you have a fairly new vehicle and are in a wreck, I would insist on new parts. You'd likely get them simply because the junk yard providers won't have many of these items in stock.

Just be aware, Allstate LVOES to use used & aftermarket parts, but since your truck is a 2003 w/5400 miles, they'll still classify it as new (under 12month/12,000 miles), they should automatically tell the shop to use OEM parts to prevent a loss of value issue. Just make sure the shop uses OEM parts as some will substitute AM/used & pocket the difference. Most shops will, if told to by the ins. co., get the AM parts, tell the ins. co. they don't fit, order the OEM parts, and the ins. co. will pay through a supplemental estimate.
