Got rear ended this morning.

On the expressway near the exit it backs up every morning and a young girl who was behind me was not paying attention and ran right up into me. We were stopped and then started to go and then when it stopped again after about 20 feet, she was still going, at least until she hit my hitch. Her Liberty has a plastic valance that holds the license plate (at least it did). My hitch sticks out farther then the bumper and it blew her license plate off. There is no visible damage on my hitch and really no damage to her bumper other than breaking her license plate frame off. The license plate itself has a nice dent from the actual hitch part that acted as a battering ram.

Do you all think everything is ok if there is no visible damage?

How hard did she hit you?
As is the norm I'd suggest that you check all the gaps between body panels and make sure they're uniform. Check your bumper too. The hitch and its mounting points... pretty much anything that would have taken any stress.

Glad to hear you're okay though. You never know what kind of people are driving behind you.

she hit me as hard as one could from going from a stop to moving about 20 feet. She was coming quickly but she did try to stop. Im fine but I am concerned about stress to the truck. I had my foot on the brake as to not drill the guy in front of me.

im sure its fine, but i would keep her insurance info and check out the things mentioned by tacoma dude.

if youre seeing any difference in driving manner, get it inspected by someone and if they find something, get in touch with her insurance co.

At 20 ft she couldn't have been going more than 10 mph unless she floored it. I would just check the bumper for signs of contact and check the frame underneath where the trailer hitch attaches. If all looks straight then don't worry about it. Next time make sure you have the tongue in there too for max damage J/K (I use mine as a parking deterrent since no one will park too close when in the city with that on there)

I took one of those awhile back from a lady who could barely speak english and, I'm sure did'nt have any insurance. From the blow I thought for sure at least my bumper would be bent. I get to the back of the truck and the left front side of her old Volvo was pretty tweaked...broken lights, bent quarter panel...Not a scratch for me Get to her window and she says...I sorry. I no looooking!!!

Long story short I smiled and said...No problem....Turned around, got in the truck and drove off with a big grin on my face.

My thoughts here are if you haven't felt it drive any differently as yet. no worries. But when you get home do a close visual inspection of the impact area and underneath in the rear just to see if there is something you might need fixed.

rear ended...bummer

Ahh, I'm sure everything is ok. I was rear ended about a month ago from a Nissan Xterra and the exterra's front right quarter panel was destroyed! I pulled over to talk with the fella who hit me, and to look at the damage to my Tacoma. A decent dent in the stock bumper but nothing I wouldn't have done to my truck eventually. I kinda blew it all off, told the guy we should report but he didn't want to (I don't think he had insurance or something...anyhow to make a long story short he couldn't even drive his xterra. I had do get out the highlift jack and use it as a vice to press his 1/4 panel away from his tire so he could drive home.....he was super duper thankful, and couldn't believe my silly looking farm jack. He said he was going to buy one after seeing me use mine to "fix" his xterra.

upon further inspection at lunch I do see now that she caught the driver side of the bumper and its bent under a little. if you run your finger under the plastic step up it is flush on the passenger side and then goes to about a 1/4" out on the driver side. Is it worth it to have it reported?

If you own the truck out right (no loan), yes. You can take the money and run. If you have a loan on the truck and don't want to get it fixed, no. If you want it fixed , loan or not, yes.

If it bugs you, by all means report it. I had my 4Runner for TWO WEEKS and my friend's mom rear ended me with her F-350. Only left two impressions from her tow hooks. $550 cash fix. No report. If I would have known then, I would have put that money on a Sonoran Steel bumper. :pat:

But remember, this will probably be an insurance claim and will show up on your carfax.

i would always report any little accident. in this case it wouldn't apply much but people can report your accident later and claim a hit an run. it's just easier and covers you more if you get a cop out there to report it.

i think i got a story that tops most of them....

Maybe , maybe not. I had $4500 worth of body work on my truck in 1998 after a guy ran a red light and t-boned me and a carfax done last year showed no accidents for my truck.

Hey Yellow, that is almost the same damage my truck had. Did your rear axle get bent too?

A friend of mine had one of those very first Honda cars, (they were very small with a 600cc engine) and a dump truck slowly backed into him and didn't even touch the front end, just dented the top of the hood.
