Good Deal?

My '94 Runner just turned 150,000 and I decided to go and look at new ones. After looking at the new design, I came to the conclusion that although I'm not thirlled with it, I could probably live with it. I asked the dealer if he had any used ones on the ot. He showed my a 2001 which I fell in love with.

It's a2001 SR5 and it's got everything. Manik grill guard, window vent/visors, bug deflector and tow package. It's black with a grey cloth interior and very, very clean. It has only 13,655 miles on it! Pretty amazing. Anyway Kelly Blue book lists it for $26,000 and the dealer is looking to get 26,995. I'm going back tonight with the blue book printout in my hand to try and get him down. Does it seem like a fair price? Just looking for your opinions.

Weren't they about $27,000 brand new? Seems high for one that's 2-3 years old.

Does it have that magical RR DIFF LOCK button to the left of the steering wheel? I strongly recommend getting one that has that.

I would say skip it unless you can get at least 2 grand off that.
BTW. Black will not stay clean - just thought you should know.

No way on the $26,995 figure. Of course, the dealer has to publish this number though. I agree with Drummer. $2,000 less should be about right on an '01. Should be easy enough to get a dealer to come down to at least 25k.

edit: When new, that 4Runner would have probably been around $30,000 (invoice). So, maybe the Kelly figure of 26 is pretty close.

If you will be financing through a bank, go there and ask them what is the fair market value of the vehicle. Most banks will let you know what you should pay for it.

After some intense research I discovered that the fair market value lied somewhere between $24,750 and $26,000. The low milage was the main factor. We ended up settling inbetween the two and I pick her up on Friday.

Thanks for all of your input.
