here's the placement issue's:

^^ this is the upper mount, easily corrected by 4 1/8in washers.

Here you can see how big it is.
see the lower mounting hole, there is NO way to make that even remotely close to the bottom OE location. also, see how close it is to the upper control arm?

now, here's the cs130.. same 4 washers for the upper bolt mount.
and here is the issue with the bottom bolt/mount, see that?

sorry those pictures sucked, it was 30mph and 15deg by then...

so the 144 hits the control arm, and the 130 doesnt line up? does it look like the 144 would line up if not for the control arm...?

the reason the 144 hits is because it wont line up with the bottom bolt. to try to get it to remotely line up with the bottom bolt it hits the control arm, if the control arm isn't there, it'll hit the inner fender lol...
if i had a welder and some 3/8 angle iron, i could make it work n/p. but...i would have to change belts, convert to the GM adjustment bolts and have to deal with how crappy it would look.

oh and you thought changing your oilfilter was a pain now, throw a bigger alternator in there LOL

yes i know it doesn't look like it, but they are.
ac delco's older ones had the rear area flipped like 90deg. the alt housing IS the same as far as bolt locations. they were reinforced in 99 from what gm said.

i meant the mount. look at the OE one, how the holes are in the 'center' of the circular part, where the 144 the holes are off to one side. even the diagram here shows the mount to look more like the OE one...

i edited my post a little bit. what you see is what you get, that's a 'new' 99 ac delco alternator. the older ones had the same mount location, just this one is reinforced. i went to 2 diff junkyards this morning and verified it.

http://www.alternatorparts.com/Toyot...lternators.htm
The 6/12 mounting style on the CS-144 type dual rectifier alternator is a very close match. It uses the same thick mount/ thin mount arrangement just like Toyota. The Toyota "thick" mount is approximately 2-1/4" and the GM based unit has a thick mount of 2" exactly. So all you need to do is insert a few washers to shim the GM's 2" mount to the 2-1/4" Toyota bracket. Then a little wiring work which we can help. Most Toyota vehicles have the clearance around the alternator area for the larger alternator. If you do not need as much power and reliability that the Extreme Duty Dual Rectifier Alternator has to offer then we also have the 6/12 mount in a single rectifier version for a lower price than the dual rectifier alternators.

maybe if i had the time, i'd order it and find out.
just a note, this would fit in my 2nd gen just fine *shrug*. the layout worked better.

check out this page: http://www.alternatorparts.com/Alter...brackets_2.htm
UNIVERSAL BELT TENSION EXTENSION BRACKET.
Use with alternator conversions. Design allows angles up to 45 degrees.
^^ that's about what you would need to get it to work. but with that bracket, you would have to relocate the dipstick... i think any way of mounting it would require relocating the dipstick.

I'm seeing huge differences in the alt you bought, Jay, and the alt that we we're talking about before. the mounts look completly different. I'm thinking GM chaned something or the parts guy got confused or...I don't know. All I know is that the various pictures don't add up.

well, go look at a 97 impala, it has the 'older' mounting scheme. take it out, compare it to the 'newer' mounting scheme, it is off by about 1/4in i'd say... and it still wont fit.
the new scheme is for better support. the older ones cracked at the mounting locations because of how heavy the cs144 is.
so, either way, imo it wont work (as a direct bolt in).
hell, the cs130 with it's much smaller body and SAME mounting points as the old one, are not even close.

Guys, I think the problem here is that there is a "small" GM case and a "large" GM case for the alts. On a large the bolt holes are opposite of each other and on a small there are like 120 degrees apart. This might be the problem. Here is a pic of a large GM case. See how the mounting bolt holes are opposite. If this helps out let me know, because I will soon be in need of a new alt!
