Getting the truck serviced...

87K on the odo and a loud squeaking suddenly pops up one day... might as well bring it in for the 90K service.

case of 5W30 Mobil 1 Synth from Costco.... $23
base coupon for 90K + rental car... $285
engine flush... $79
transmission flush... $103
rear brakes replaced and drums machined... $175
replaced old drive belts (squeak)... $80
rental dodge neon... free!
Total for the first day... !free -> $925.55
Pick up the truck... more sounds
tech listens to it... wobbly pulley
wobbly pulley... possible crankshaft damage
"Timing Belt Coupon" to get into the area to diagnose... $99
V8 Dodge Dakota crewcab rental instead of neon because they didn't have any small cars left (and all paid for by Tustin Toyota)...
Crankshaft... not damaged.
fix wobbly pulley... $600
So altogether, 90K tuneup... approx $1600. !priceless

Good thing I don't work for Mastercard because I suck at making priceless commercials

So yeah, basically, a Neon for a day, a Dakota for two, and about $1600. Not totally sure on the total because I pick the truck up tomorrow because they had to order parts to fix the wobble.

Wow...thats a good list of stuff to do. That thing should be running like NEW by the time they're done with it.

Hope it goes well for ya man!

dub,

no timing belt and/or water pump? typically those two things should be replaced at 90k.

My truck BETTER be running like new when I get it back! That $$ could've gone towards a down payment for a new car

my timing belt was actually replaced at 60K, but they're also doing it again because they said that they could diagnose the pulley probem by servicing the timing belt, rather than other more costly methods (?). I'll ask about the water pump...

Just got off the phone with them. He said that the water pump is normally only replaced if it goes bad(?) and that the tech checked mine since they're servicing that area, and said it was running fine... Man, they didn't catch a visibly wobbly pulley the first time, I hope they're going over it with a fine-tooth comb this time...

How do you know when your pump is failing?
