Gen II Exhaust Questions
Hey guys,
I am new to this group and I want to say that in reading all of the stuff that is posted here, I have learned a ton. I have had a 89 Hilux for 3 years (while I was in Japan) and a 92 4Runner for the last 9 months. I love Toyotas, but coming from an old american "big block" family I have never been comfortable under that hood of anything that didn't have a carbureator until I came across this forum. I have taken the knowledge that I have gained here and just to decided to go for it. I did the ISR mod and the airbox mod and in spending time under my hood started to realize that these things aren't so different after all. Thanks to all for that.
My main reason for posting is that I am about done with the intake and I am ready to start on the exhaust. I am looking for basically the cheapest way out to gain performance. I will be totally honest, I am not concerned with getting 1 more HP by doing this or that for another $100. I am looking for bulk improvement so going with product X over product Y for an small additional gain for a significant price difference will not mean much to me.
1. On my 92 3.0 V6 I am wondering if I would be better off going dual exhaust instead of single pipe. Could someone enlighten me on the benefits?
2. I see Magnaflow doesn't make a specific muffler for the 4Runners. Does it matter which I go with or is it a matter of personal preference?
3. If I were to go dual exhaust, would hi flow cat and exhaust be necessary?
Additionaly I have been looking at AJ-USA (www.ajusa.com) and they have pretty good prices on stuff and free shipping. If anyone knows of something better, please say so.
Thanks in advance for the guidance

I wouldn't go with dual exhaust if I were you. Your 3.0 doesn't move enough air to benefit from it. You would actually lose low end power by doing so. Unless you are putting headers on the engine, you won't see much in the way of hp gains by going with a new muffler and cat. My headers dump into a highflow 2.5" cat then get downsized to a 2" muffler and tailpipe. The results were exactly what I was looking for. The Hp gain was around 15-20. Definately noticable and it sounds pretty good. Remember V6's do not produce the same deep tones as V8's. If your exhaust is too freeflow, it will sound like ˟˟˟˟˟ as well as suffer on the low end.
