Gearing in 3rd Gen Runner

What is the best gearing to change to for a '97 3rd gen 4Runner? I don't even know what is in it right now, but I am running 285, 75 16's right now and I have lost a lot of power and gas milage. It is a 3.4L auto. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I have 265/75/16's and went to 4.30's from 4.10's. My MPG actually went down (data collected for quite a while now). (-.5 MPG on average)

If I am not mistaken, 4.56 is ideal to get your power back with those tires. Someone chime in if I am wrong please.

4.56s will put you as close as possible to the original gear/tire ratio. However, when running 285s/33s, most people opt for 4.88s.

You may get close to having the original torque back but your gas mileage will still suffer because those tires have alot more inertia to them than the stock ones did. Regearing will help alot with the torque problem on hills and when towing.
