Gearing????
What would be a good gear ration for my '91 3.0L V6 4x4 pickup with 31's.....it feels like to gearing is too tall right now, I want to be able to use 5th and 4th to go uphill instead of 3rd.

Even though a lot of folks call the 3.0 the 3.slow, it's still a capable motor and 31s shouldn't be giving you that much performance decrease. Maybe your engine is down on power? Are you expecting too much? I have a 245hp V8 in my other truck and still have to downshift if it's a steep grade (probably don't HAVE to, but lugging the engine on grades is a surefire recipe for short engine life.) Your stock ratio is probably 4.10. So, for 31s 4:56 would be about right, but it's a lot of money for so little gain.

Yeah mines 4.56, & if iwas driving alot of hills i think i would prefer something a little higher ratio, maybe 4.88.
You need to read the Vin label on your firewall & tell us what it says.

Did the truck come stock with 31's or did your friend put them on there. If they weren't stock, I would think the stock gears are 4.10's. I've also heard that some trucks came with 4.30's. There is a guide to find out what you have by your VIN on offroad.com or 4x4wire.com.
