Guys, quick question regarding the bulbs in my 99 4runner.

Can you replace the bulbs in the top row of the center console, the "Rear Defrost" ECT and back window up/down switch? I took that piece apart last night and it looks like those bulbs are soldered to the circuit board. For some reason mine are all out. The Rear Defrost little orange light illuminates when the button is depressed, but when you turn on the interior lights there is no backlighting for those other buttons.

Any help would be appreciated!

My 02 took 74's not 24's. 24's were to large and 74's fit perfect.

Ok, I've read just about every single LED conversion thread. and everyone's done a 3rd gen write up and product list. but how come no one has done a required list for a 2nd gen 4runner? does anyone know what bulbs are needed and how many are needed for the SR5 gauges, dome lights, cig lighter, climate controls, power windows, and everything else? I've decided to tackle this and a list of bulbs would make things amazingly easier

Defrost/ECT: neowedge type A
Rear window: neowedge type A
Ash Tray: 74
Key Ring: 74
Map Lights: 2 - Ba9
Domes: 2 - Festoons
Glove box: 74
Vanity: 2 - 31mm fuse bulb

Not positive on the following but pretty sure:
Gauge Illumination: 3 - 24's
4WD: 3 - neowedge Type B
All other gauge lights: 74's
Blinkers: 2 - 74

A note on the digital climate control: There are one (probably two) lights that I didn't try to get to. They are most likely soldered. One light is the fresh/recycle air button and I believe there is another similar button on the upper right. Maybe this summer I'll get to it. Just a warning if you don't have soldering experience replacing the DCC if you screw up is quite expensive. Problem is the fresh/recycle button is always on so it will probably be annoying if everything else is a different color.

Power window, security, passenger seatbelt are all soldered.

I think that covers everything. Thank you everyone that contributed to this thread!!!!

I recently bought 2001 Limited for my wife and mention that I have only gauge claster and AutoClimateControl light up when lights are on. This evening my left part of AuotClimateControl gone "dark". This is last call for doing something.
I want to replace the central console lights as I only have right portion of AutoClimateControl on and nothing else, absolutely nothing else.
Reading all thread up I think I might need 5-6 #74, 2 Neo Type A and 2 Neo Type B. Would it be enough for all central console and glove box?
As mentioned in the second quote, what to do with circuit board lights? I didn't opened mine, but when I would, I'll be better prepared.
Please advise if my calculations are right, so i can order... Thank you.

So I am thinking of doing this and everybody here keeps on saying the same thing leaving out the stereo. How would one be able to change those or would it be better to spend more money and buy a new stereo deck with blue backlights?

How did you do this? I have a 99 sport and i've tried the 194 (to big) and the 75 (to small). I want my dash to look just like this, but i can't find the #24 led's you were talking about in one of your posts. I gave up and went with some glow gauges. I hate them cause they look like some punk ricer ride. I'm trying to go with the white gauges and i want it to look stock. Please tell me how you did this.

How to get to the shifter bulb? Where is it?

P.S. I found that "Seat Warmers" type switches has 2 NeoWedge Type A bulbs on the side.

UPDATE: Those switches do have bulbs inside, but Toyota wiring (at least on my '01 Limited) does not have light wire to power them in harness.

Another 99 here. I just installed an Alpine deck w/ blue illumination. I'm doing this either way so maybe I'll be the guinea pig for the rest of you 99ers. Should be happening within the next couple weeks when I have time to rip the dash apart and get proper styles and numbers. Stay tuned...
