Hmmm, me thinks me likes the sounds of that idear.
Sounds crazy enough to actually work!

it works, just loosen the bolts on the lights, fold them down so they are below the level of the bars on the basket, and tie stuff on top.

I've got OME 882's and one trim packer up front and OME HD coils in the back on 32's with a 4" Con Ferr rack and I have about 4" till I can't fit in the garage anymore.

well, you're going to be calling it close. my rig ('89 on 31's, no lift) sits at 6'0" without the basket and 6'10" with the basket. if i put the jerry cans on (on their side) and the spare tire in the basket, then i need 7'4" clearance. i have the yakima load warrier on yakima load bars. generally, i keep the spare tire underneath the truck and don't have the jerry cans on, so i can fit in my garage, otherwise i cannot. but since my car is nicer (newer) than my trucks, they usually sit outside anyway.

I've got a Surco (as do several others on the board) that is 5" tall. For mounting it, you can mount it to the factory roof rack, if you have one, or to an aftermarket rack like Thule or Yakima. Using the factory rack will let the basket sit lower, but it won't be as strong. Going with aftermarket will let you carry more weight, but will raise the basket up some.
Why not remove the factory rack and mount it directly to the rails? This would definitely be the lowest and strongest way to mount a rack. If you need to mount other accessories, like Yakima or Thule, you can them mount them to your basket using the adapters they provide.

P.S. I'll be doing this in a few months so I'll have a complete Yakima rack w/Control towers and crossbars for sale. Sorry but I'll be keeping the Steelhead Bike Mounts, Promo Ski Mounts, and Fairing .

That's how my ConFerr rack is mounted. I may even slot the brackets to lower the rack another 1/2" or so.

I just got a BVG basket and I like it so far. I just have it sitting on the toyota rails and I have to say, it dosn't make as much noise as I thought it might. I will have to see what it does to my mileage. I do not have a wind fairing on it ( but I am looking). I have more than enough room to get in and out of the garage....but we will see once the lift comes.

I am looing for a light bracket that will fit the front...like a 4 light setup..anyone know of one?
