I have an '02 4Runner (SR5 4x4) with Swayaway's in the front and lately I've been noticing (and so has everybody else) a squeak coming from my front end. When I brought my 4Runner to the Toyota dealer they said it was coming from the front right shock. However, when I brought it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion, they said it was the upper ball joint that needs to be replaced. Is there a way to determine who is right here? The front end squeaks whenever I'm driving over anything other than a flat surface. The dealer wants $222.00 to replace the upper ball joint. What do you guys think???

 

does it squeak if you have a friend rock your runner side to side? if so, try to listen and pinpoint it if possible

 

I know that there was a factory recall on some Tacomas for this problem. Probably is on your year Runner too. The dealer can run your vehicles VIN# and tell you if it applies to yours.

 

do you happen to know the years affected? my front drivers side squeaks like mad!

 

check your sway bar bushings too.

 

i have a suspension squeek (at least i think thats what it is)

when the car rocks back and forth, it squeeks,

not a huge deal to me, and ill find out what it is when i have time this winter.

 

Start with some silicone spray on all of the sway bar bushings -

 

how many miles on your swayways coils over, hemi joint on my swayways started to squeak after a few years.
